copyright Film adaptation of a novel - copyright

I'm afraid they're not going to give you anything without big bucks. Sorry, dude. It happens. Copyright is SO complicated. That's why I write screenplays of my old short stories.

Do my friends have TOO much confidence in their project?

I'd just let them figure it out on their own...but, if you want them to succeed, you should probably step in as a producer as well, if they approve. Or maybe I've got the wrong idea. I've never shot a short film so I really wouldn't know...

Ironically enough, I've been gone for a few days as well. No problem, Skreamings. An entertaining watch gets a positive comment from me. :D

    I need your VOTE!

Aw. Sorry, dude, I would have voted for you, but I've not been around on here and I just now saw this. Consider me voting for you, though. --Jacob, who's sorry he arrived an hour and a half too late.

Not to come off as a stiff prick, but that was a joke, right? If not, I have plenty of reasons to not do that....

How did Avatar make so much money?

I've decided to just answer the question, because I can't truly enter a debate about the film because.... I've never seen it. Yeah, I know, right. Never seen it. When it came out, not I or anyone in my intermediate family went to go see it. A distant family member (who's a film buff, but not...

what do you think is the most important factor in making a good movie?

I was a fan of radio dramas when I was little, so I'm definitely have to be able to HEAR it. To me, if I can hear it, I can see it. (And some Michael Bay films are his fault and some aren't. The latter two of the Transformers films I KNOW weren't his fault entirely. Ehren Kruger has to be my...

Should I sell my youtube channel so I can afford film equipment?

I say pm your subscribers and say something like this: "Dear Subscribers, My channel,______, will be under new management soon. However, I've opened a new account called _______. If you want more from me, and my series, you should subscribe that one. And I thank you for all of your...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Mostly the way they're shot. Sometimes he cuts away too quickly or puts the camera too close to the action for my taste. There's some shaky cam in there, too, which I'm really not a fan of. TDK seemed to favor static shots more, which is the main improvement over it.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Batman Begins-- It has solid storyline, dialog and acting. But its action scenes annoy me; I like being able to watch them. Nolan was on his way there, and a few years later he got it ALL right with The Dark Knight. Ratings: BB--6.7/10 TDK--9/10

    archived-videos The Dumpster - A Short Comedy

I know I'm weighing in on this a little late, and I know that the director's been gone from here for a while, but I thought I'd comment. I'm a writer, not an actor or director. Usually only melodramatic performances annoy me, and these didn't come off this way. I actually liked the acting. But...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I've just watched the entire Star Trek movie series, and here are my ratings: The Motion Picture: 4/10 The Wrath of Khan: 8.7/10 The Search for Spock: 6/10 The Voyage Home: 6.9/10 The Final Frontier: 3/10 The Undiscovered Country: 9/10 Generations: 6.7/10 First Contact: 8.5/10 Insurrection...

treatment The rough Draft of my treatment

Sorry for accidentally combining the two. :D And '80s horror FTW. As long as you like slasher movies, of course, because that's about all that 80s horror was. And like I said before, sounds interesting.

Urgent ADVICES/suggestions for a screenplay deal.

Thanks, 2001. You've been a big help. And yeah, something about InkTip doesn't sit well with me. I think it's the paying $60 to put a script on there, when there's a slim chance of anyone buying it.

Urgent ADVICES/suggestions for a screenplay deal.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing that with me. :D Do you happen to know why places like InkTip (not that I'm interested in using it) like for their scripts to be WGA registered?

Urgent ADVICES/suggestions for a screenplay deal.

I meant it very jokingly. I wasn't trying to say that precise terminology doesn't make a difference. If an author accidentally says "query" instead of "cover letter" they are often corrected, because they are different. There's nothing wrong with making sure everyone has their stuff straight. :)

film-school Terrific series of articles from Film School Rejects

I've seen these. Personally, I like the one about Alfred Hitchcock, given I write in his genre all, and I like the one from Steven Spielberg. Really great stuff to be found in those things. :D

treatment The rough Draft of my treatment

A combination of Fright Night and Twilight? Could be interesting, as long as it's well executed. Doubt I'd see it, given the religious position it's pushing, but it could be okay. I personally don't like Twilight, but I love Fright Night. Perhaps the combination of the two could be a pretty...

Urgent ADVICES/suggestions for a screenplay deal.

You knew what he meant ;) And it's noob question time: What's the difference between the two other than the words "copyright" and "register?" I'd think copyrighting something would be a little odd after you register it with WGA. Plus, once you write something, it's yours. You own it. I...
