cinematography Need tips for shooting comedy

I would say don't make it look too real. So bright lighting nice sound. You want to make the audiece laugh at the characters not at our filmmaking ;)

    Panasonic GH3 is here

Doh! I've just gone and bought a GH2. Maybe should have waited... Oh well. My friend says he's got a Red Epic camera I might be able to borrow!

The Indie film rocking the middle east.

yep i watched it because of the controversy. :) My pet peeve in indie films is when it involves a sequence of someone walking in a house from one room to another for about 10 seconds without talking. That's 10 seconds of wasted film which could be used for something more exciting. I've seen it...

    Newbie to lighting

I've just been watching Die Another Day and now that I realise what 3-point lighting is I can spot it in almost every shot!! Now that I know it's there it's kind of makes the film look unrealistic because all the lighting is fake! I suppose it's needed to make a 2D image look more 3D when our...

The Indie film rocking the middle east.

Quite a lot of it. I was neither offended nor entertained so it didn't work for me. Kind of reminds me of a film a cult might make such as the scientologists or the mormons or the jahova witnesses

The Indie film rocking the middle east.

THanks I didn't see that. I'm more interested in it from a filmmakers perspective though. I don't think it has much artistic merit. ;)

The Indie film rocking the middle east.

(To moderators: if this subject is too controversial please delete) What's your opinion of the indie film that is causing riots in the middle east this week? Not in terms of content but in terms of filmmaking? I think it's a pretty shoddy piece of work. Bad sound and acting. Lighting and sets...

    Newbie to lighting

Do I need something like this? http://www.amazon.com/ePhoto-1800-Watt-Photography-Lighting-Umbrella/dp/B004Q7LFZC It seems a bit cumbersome! I will be using a GH2 camera

    Starting a production company

Is this as simple as getting yourself a nice website and registering yourself with companies house? Is there any point to this? I'm thinking the main avenues for our low budget films will be iTunes and selling to TV channels to fill up their schedules and possibly DVD distribution if anyone even...

    Project Managament

holy moly that looks just right. Is it any good? Do you have to pay for it?

    Project Managament

Do you know any good project management software for organising people online. Where people can post ideas and add new teammembers and we can post news. And links to rushes and so forth. There's obviously facebook but is there something better?

Is there a program for creating story boards?

What I would like is some software where you can draw a picture for each short clip along with some subtitles of what the people are saying. Then specify how long that clip will be on screen for. Then be able to play the whole thing as a movie to get an idea of the length of the movie.

Using Nexus 7 as a screen for DSLR!

Just seen this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4X6olWN3-g about connecting a nexus 7 tablet to various Canon cameras by USB to use the nexus 7 as a large screen/input device. That looks pretty cool. I don't think it would work with the GH2 as this outputs with an HDMI cable. Am I wrong?

    Submitting to your own Festival

I know in science in Europe it is considered bad manners to hold a scientific conference and also give a lecturer at your own conference. Perhaps the same applies to filmmakers.

Can you pay actors in shares?

OK, so if you don't have a big budget what's the legality of paying people in shares of future profits? i.e. each actor gets an equal share of 50% of any profits of the film. Presumably it's fine to pay yourself below minimum wage so if each actor is essentially a partner then does that apply...

When actors drop out 4 days before shoot time....

Was this a case of counting your chickens before you met them? Maybe next time audition your actors, let meet them, get to know them, rehearse with them and then by the time it's start to film they will have an emotional investment in the process so will find it harder to pull out?

What do you think the difference is?
