    Editing Keyboard/Mice/Pad?

Cool, thanks for the input guys. I think I'll just learn all the keyboard shortcuts then. Now that you mention keyboard shortcuts a Google search informs me that for Sony Vegas I can use ctrl+shift+scroll wheel to scroll frame by frame... nice.

    Editing Keyboard/Mice/Pad?

I'm just wondering what everyone on here uses beyond a traditional keyboard/mouse at their editing station. I'm thinking about getting a contour shuttle pro, but are they really a huge time saver? It seems to me like they would be helpful once you get the hang of it, but on a limited budget...

    Amateur Filmmaker

I now officially feel old. I know exactly what I was doing the day you were born. I was celebrating my 21st birthday. Anyway, I wish I'd started as you did, that's great. Welcome!

    archived-videos New Music Video

I was quite happy with the job they did. I met them both in acting class, and I noticed both of them right away. Both of them have some talent. Some of that was luck, some of that was done in post. I had some incredible lighting where I filmed, but to emphasize the difference between the...

    archived-videos New Music Video

Hey everyone, this is a music video that I put together for a contest. The deadline was supposed to be today, but it's apparently had the deadline extended. If I'd known they were going to do that I would have filmed a couple more scenes I wanted to do in here, but it's a moot point I guess...

    Should I write this?

When you said a story within a story, my mind went straight to the Tarantino approach. Start off with the soldier's story, then cut to the wizard's story and then show how the two intertwine... etc... I think that would be a decent way to blend all this together. Anyway, there are some good...

What's your biggest film making achievement/success?

For me it's just getting my first short made, which I just did last week. I learned a lot and made tons of mistakes, but the best part was hearing several positive comments about it. That said, I'm hoping for bigger achievements in the future... but at least I've got something to build on now.

    Cropping Questions

This is exactly what I did for several of my shots in my first short. I actually hadn't planned it this way, but I quickly realized that some of my footage needed cropping (like the edge of a blanket hanging in a window to block daylight... yikes). So, in order to keep those scenes from looking...

    archived-videos Short horror film

Horror is not really my genre, but I liked this one. I liked the creepy "ring around the rosie" whispers. My favorite shot was when he came in the house... the overhead shot gave the feeling he was being watched the whole time.

archived-videos My First Short Film - All Feedback Welcome

Thanks for the advice! I was a little worried about the dialogue. I guess that's part of the challenge of cramming a story in to a few minutes, and something I need to work on. I've written a few other shorts which I think are better in terms of dialogue and action. I think maybe I didn't...

archived-videos My First Short Film - All Feedback Welcome

Love it, hate it, whatever, just let me know. Honestly, we're all looking for constructive feedback, but don't worry about wording things delicately around me. I'm still fairly new here, and new to the filmmaking world, but I've got pretty thick skin...

archived-videos My Directorial Debut (Feedback Please!)

I really enjoyed it. I don't really have any critique to add, since I'm still a newb working on editing my 1st short (which now feels pathetic in comparison... thanks a lot... ha ha) Nice work!

How much fiction can you add?

My newbie .02 worth... If this example of alternate history can be made, you can pretty much write whatever you want.

    Introduce me to the basics

So much great advice here already from the folks who really know what they're talking about, so I'll just add my little nugget that I got from my really limited experience. If you're struggling with where to find talent that will work with a beginning filmmaker, perhaps take an acting class if...

No Storyboard, No Shot List Directors

That's great if it works for you. I tried doing my first short recently (only 3 scenes) with the list only in my head and it didn't go so well... detailed lists for me from now on. I like Eastwood's stance on input from others. You're crazy if you think you're the only one with a good idea...
