    Happy Father's Day!

My two-year-old daughter is definitely my best production ever! :)

    Spec an Shooting scripts

A spec script is one written on speculation. It's not a format per se. What generally makes a shooting script is the addition of scene numbers and locked page count. Obviously you don't need to worry about either of those, so just write in the default format of whatever software you're using.

sound do you guys reccomend recording background sound? (Prevent Jumpcuts)

First, if there's an airplane, you want to wait for it to go. If you can't wait, then you'll likely have to loop that line or, as I did in one of my films, make sure the sound continues into the next cut. Generally, you record what is called "room tone" for every scene. That means keeping...

    HD or DV?

Down-converted HD looks better than footage shot natively in SD. Shoot HD.

My movie is finally hitting store shelves!

That part of the process was largely out of my hands. We sent it around to a few sales reps and one of the them agreed to pick it up. Then he sent it around to a few distributors and one of them decided to pick it up. I couldn't even tell you what criteria they had, but the bottom line is...

Thanks. It's available on Netflix, as well as Blockbuster Online. Amazon sold out today but has already re-ordered!

Sales Agents: Have They Ever Paid?

This method is not uncommon at all. A lot of talent reps work this way as well. They process the check, take their commission, and pay out the 90% to the client. There shouldn't be anything to fear from any reputable rep. And I guess they do it this way because they have more to worry about...

Sales Agents: Have They Ever Paid?

I have. We signed with a sales rep who landed us our distribution deal within six months. We were paid in stages through the sales rep and so far we've received every penny we're owed from him.

My movie is finally hitting store shelves!

Hi guys, the release date of my movie "Lost Mission" is finally here! On April 22, we will be available in Hollywood Video stores across the country, as well as a few local Blockbusters and some independent stores. We're also on just about every online video sales and rental store online...

Red Scarlet should get the drool flowing

While that's certainly true of the Red One, it's not for the Scarlet. That's why I'm wondering about its audio capabilities. I haven't read anything about it though.

editing Has the technology changed in terms of camcorders...

I believe that is still the case. I wouldn't get a DVD-R camcorder for filmmaking purposes.

Red Scarlet should get the drool flowing

The amount of awesome in the Red product line is almost sickening. My only question though, does the Scarlet record audio?

    How is everyone doing?

A little update: I just found out today that my movie is pretty much available on any online movie and rental store. We're on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Netflix, Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, Tower, and a few more. I've also been getting scattered reports of sightings on store shelves as far...

    How is everyone doing?

My movie will be available on Netflix and Amazon on April 22. I've got a pilot that just got some really interesting news (too early to report anything conrete). Beyond that, I've mostly been working in VFX for my day job, which is going pretty well.

editing Shooting film and editing digitally

Once it's on digital, then it's just like any other digital footage and you edit it as such. As long as you're not going back to conform back to film, then no worries. As for costs, you'll have to ask around about current raw stock and lab rates. Raw stock and processing are priced by the...

    cinematography Electricity in the woods

Rent a generator. Or use headlights and keep the night short so you don't kill your battery. Or shoot day-for-night, which is probably what I'd do if I couldn't afford a generator.

Should docs be Subjective or Objective?

I don't have a preference. I like both, although I've seen very very few actual objective documentaries. One could argue that all documentaries are inherently subjective, since a filmmaker must make editorial choices that are going to show the audience what he/she wants them to see. I don't...

How much would you like to be paid?

A couple of crucial differences between the two models. They have over a thousand movies to rent. You will offer less than twenty. And they almost certainly have a revenue sharing plan with the distributors/filmmakers rather than a large recurring payment in the tens of thousands of dollars.
