    The story behind the name.

Last Chancey Productions -- because my name is Clayton Chancey, and I used to watch these Christian kids movies (in retrospect, they were totally lame) called the Last Chance detective, and I was all over that shit. So Last Chancey just seemed appropriate.

archived-videos THE WATCH: A scene from my short film, shot with a Canon 7D. Yeeehaaa, DSLR

Really cool. Loved the vibe. Maybe a few inserts of people, drinks, lights, etc. would help establish the mood even more. There does, however, seem to be a problem with the way the dialog flows. Nothing major, mind you, but noticeable. It seems to me that the PACING at which you cut the dialog...

Question on how to write a car chase.

I've seen it done that way on SHOOTING SCRIPTS. The best examples would be the Bourne Supremacy and Ultimatum Shooting scripts... there's so much action in completely different locations intercut together that they occasionally do this.

    Who's your dream team?

Director: Edward Zwick (Defiance, Blood Diamond) Writers: Tony Gilroy (Bourne series), Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) Producer: Steven Spielberg (because he's fucking Steven Spielberg) DOP: Anthony Dod Mantle (Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later) I would use DJs and artists above...

    GRIDLOCK -- Intro, 6 pages

@CHamburger -- Thanks! I'm intentionally trying to think of arguments I've had with my college-age friends over entirely pointless things to use a fodder for this dialog. I also have a specific point in keeping Marv fairly underused, but if you think it detracts from the development, then...

Thanks! Having a screenplay be called "cinematic" is the highest praise!

sound How I made money from music

@gorillaonabike Totally agree. For around 5 years, I was a drummer/percussionist in the LA area, and although I wasn't THAT great (I could and still can hold my own, but nothing like some of the guys living in their mother's basement and posting 13-minute solos on Youtube), I pursued private...

    GRIDLOCK -- Intro, 6 pages

Hey guys, The intro to a new short I'm hoping to film in Santa Barbara, CA in the next few weeks. I'm mostly wondering if the characters and their banter (and eventually the inciting incident to the plot) keeps you interested. Let me know what you think, and if these guys are likeable or just...

http://youtu.be/bbIlLmCID5g The 100 Greatest Movie Threats of All Time. Pretty mind-blowing. Or should I say, that's some fucking in-fucking-comprehensible shit. EDIT: No idea how to embed properly.

What are some good ideas for a space opera.

In reference to the original question, I've always thought that a space opera-style story that doesn't revolve around the heroes and leaders of a massive intergalactic conflict would be very interesting. As in: the story itself focuses (at least, initially) on a fairly insignificant personal or...

    archived-videos East Africa Adventure Filmmaking

@Murdock -- I hope so! @ Zensteve -- Thanks! Yeah, that problem stems from using a cheap DOF adapter in Africa... after a certain number of slipping down the side of mountain pathways into the jungle with the camera in hand, I said to hell with it started shooting with dirty lenses thinking...

In need of a good movie :)

I second Requiem for a Dream. I recommend it to everyone these days... you never know which of your friends might be considering shooting heroin. ;) <--inappropriate wink But seriously, what about "STAY" with Ewan McGregor directed by Marc Forster? A second, third, and fourth viewing coupled...

What would YOU buy with $6,000 for a travel documentary?

Hey man. I understand your plight.. Two months ago I was working on a four-month-long project in East Africa and Germany -- we were a two man crew for about half the trip, the other half was only me. Sony Handycam, dirt-cheap microphone, Macbook and Final Cut. Complete company budget of $300...

Also a good point. Was the clipping of the Narrator sound clips obvious? I was using AIFF, and every time I cut the track to position the narrator's voice somewhere on the timeline, the division registered audibly as a a little "blup" that remains in the final render. I didn't know what caused...

@samvic Thanks, yeah I suppose it might help with the views to have subtitles. My client is completely German, so it wouldn't be of much use to anyone, but if more people are interested (probably my family, church, etc.) then you're right... I ought to write some subtitles when I get the...

Hey guys, just thought I'd post two of the small vignettes I put together for the German missionary organization I work for in East Africa. I shot this in different locations throughout Kenya, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and South Sudan -- and while my primary objective was to...

Is Final Cut Pro X worth it?

I started on iMovie. It's actually great... you learn from mistakes, man. Just try making 5 or 6 short films (in the 5-minute range) on iMovie before you spend money on something bigger. It's just common sense. You don't buy a teenager a stick-drive Aston Martin with a hyper-sensitive...

It's a good intro, how I see it.

I agree. You're writing a novel here, not a screenplay. And this is coming from someone who understands the difference -- I've written three full-length novels and am still struggling to write a screenplay. A novelist has traditionally stuffed his book with as much value and opinion as possible...
