    What is your favourite screenplay?

Yeah - I'd certainly say that is the general consensus. I just wish that we had more fat to chew sometimes.

Director Styles - the Clint v the Gee

There is a specific moment in Wong Kar-Wai's Chungking Express where (I cannot recall the proper term, its been a few years since those classrooms) he uses some form of triple framing shot. There is the background, the middleground and the foreground. The crowd (middle) moves with pace. The...

    Crash (of Civilisations?)

Clive: I know what you mean. I come from Hull, which has become in the last two years a place of real racial tensions. Last year, a man was stabbed less than 10 minutes from my where my parents sleep in a racially motivated murder. I don't see it as a problem that exists somewhere else. Back...

the big hello and the little plan

Darn right there! Thanks to a bit of your Hocus, oh Pokus, now I see. And to think they had me feeling so guilty over what I took simple pleasure in doing! Its not like I was raping anyone! Nothing was proved. Tomorrow, when I awake, they will recieve the full blast of the Zoolio's...

    What is your favourite screenplay?

I agree Clive. Screen writing seems more and more like a science at times to me. Novel writers seem to have such great freedom to delve into so much more than can be conveyed in a script. I find myself dissapointed with any scene that I write as script. A total antithesis to how I feel about...

Why do you think that so many directors are men?

I agree completely with that. My above 'coincidence' comment is meant to suggest that there is no innate difference that makes men better at it than women or vice-versa (the very trap Poke rightly warned about falling into earlier).

the big hello and the little plan

Poke: I am speaking of blog posts that people took offense to. But those complaints heightened my awareness of my ability to offend. So, I suppose this is a double apology. Just covering all bases I guess. Just hope people don't take what I say too seriously. I love you Poke. No but...

excellent idea on the recorder filmy. I use that for my degree - research, possible arguments, that kind of thing. It really does help. It allows you to, after a while of recording, sit down with your ideas for a solid hour and collect all the disparate moments and agglutinate them into an...

    Crash (of Civilisations?)

Poke, I really hope you enjoy it. I certainly did. :) Great ensemble cast. I hope to read your thoughts on it.

So what did you do this week? (end 06/12)

I spoke to some people about a screenplay that I wanted to do which was full of things that I wanted to say which felt to me like I was forcing points down the readers throats. It didn't feel right. Some have suggested giving it a go as novel. It has changed medium. In my desperation for a...

    Crash (of Civilisations?)

Thanks for replying John. 'You should understand that issue of race....can never be desribed in clear cut terms' I agree. I just don't want my views to be built on grounds that don't exist. Films like this arrive every now and then, which make people think about places. 'wow - the US seems...

Why do you think that so many directors are men?

ahoy there midnight9 - re: your post - i don't get it. do you mean to suggest that males are better at manufacturing?

the big hello and the little plan

Thanks all. Alas, I have recieved some complaints about specific posts that I have made. I am having to go through a review process with these complainers before I am able to post anything more. :( To be honest, I am very shocked. I never ever believed that I could offend people so much...

    Crash (of Civilisations?)

Fellow Indie Talkers, I have just been treated to a viewing of Crash, Paul Haggis' directorial debut. It is a film about race and race relations in the US. Those who are abused in the film, at other points, abuse others. It is a wicked cycle. Recently I read a book by the controversial...

thats a very good method and one that I have used. You should decide the key points of scenes to write on cards eg - Who: Where: Why: Line: etc You can put these on each of the scene cards and fill in the blanks. It helps to tighten it all up. Use a highlighter colour, say yellow for...
