    The 35mm Look

Even consider getting a 35MM filter for your cam to add shallow DOF? I saw them in the latest B&H catalog just the other day. They make them for dozens of prosumer and pro camera models. That's probably the cheapest way to go.

    How's the Sony HDRHC9?

True. Look at David Lynch's film Inland Empire. Shot on a Sony DSR-PD150 (I own the PD170 model). What a magnificent film! If he can shoot such an epic on DVCAM, anyone can. Rik's right. Content, content, content.

    Avid shows RED camera support

When Apple released Final Cut Studio 2, they (luckily) added in native RED support in the box ^^ I'm glad to see RED getting so much support from the industry.

    *Vote Today*

When voting for president today, I filled in the 'write in' candidate line with one name: Bender Bending Rodriguez. His platform: "Screw this. I'll open my own casino. With blackjack! And hookers! You know what? Forget the backjack. Forget the casino too!" Yeah, baby. That's someone I'd vote...

Hollywood let me vent my anger!!!

While I'm no big fan of modern day remakes, I look at it like a last-ditch desperation of the Hollywood-of-old to make some bucks off a once popular idea. It's sad that Hollywood in general still doesn't get it. The future is fresh blood. The indies. They honestly are so afraid of losing...

    Apple Finally Releases new Laptops

If Apple silently drops Firewire from these models, it's a scary thing. Apple created Firewire, didn't they? I won't buy one if it didn't have FW400 and FW800. Luckily, my 17in Macbook Pro does so it's a keeper. If future Macbooks have no FW, I'm looking for something different.

    archived-videos ANNOYING BRIAN 2

If you plan on making it a trilogy, I'm driving up there for a cameo. My cat will sit in his lap and take a massive dump on Brian's lap. Spatula: Christmas Special? Hmmm...

As I said to John in an email earlier today, AB2 is the best superior sequel since The Godfather Part II. I still can't stop laughing at it. <watching it again, queues it up on the AppleTV to show it all my friends> Hey John, how about a full-resolution 640x480 H.264 downloadable version?

    Legal character names?

I look at it this way: If there's any doubt in your mind that you MIGHT be sued over it, then it's best not to take the chance. When I come up with names, I'll create something unique then Google it. If Google returns ZERO pages as a reference for that name, it's good to use. :D

    ADVICE ON FILM...

Are you looking for the 'film grain' look or take the footage down to 24P? What editing software are you using? The majority of higher-end titles have software emulation that can add simulated grain or deinterlace video.

Be kind rewind - must see...

I saw the trailer for this a few months back and immediately said I wanted to see it. Is it out on DVD yet?

a simple but confusing question for me

Listening to the commentary on the DVD, Kevin explained that he had to tack on another $27K just for the music licensing. The rest went to various forms of post production. Luckily, he never paid anything more than the initial $27K to shoot it. The rest was paid for when the film got picked up.

    Novel to Movie Rights Question

Yepper, I'm still here. As I lay here, holding my PD170, wishing I could get out of bed to shoot something, I peck away on my MacBook Pro's keyboard keeping up with email, IMs and proofreading my book. Its difficult to get anything done as everyone wants to IM me on Skype. It's a shame that I...
