    archived-videos Feedback on ad requested

To me it looks like (a rather excellent) opening to a film introducing the camera. Not much there to get me wanting to hire that. It definitely grabs me by the throat and lets me know something very cool is coming up but at the moment I am far more impressed with your craft than the camera...

Glidecam design -- I'm doing it wrong

I really don't like that joint on the handle either, cant see how that can do anything apart from let the whole thing fall sideways. Hard to tell from descriptions but I'm guessing the balancing is way out, your centre of gravity is in the wrong place. If it tips a bit and the top isn't...

    editing Anybody abandoning FCP...for good?

AVID supply a list of tried and tested machines that they strongly suggest you use. Stick to them and that worry is gone. Keep a clean machine setup only for editing and that'll solve a lot of issues with background services. My PC has never crashed out while editing.

FCP to Avid on PC, best export settings

Done a bit of filming the other day with another guy who uses FCP on a Mac. We are both making slightly different edits for the different talent's show reels. Now he uses Pluraleyes to synch up the sound whereas I have to do it manually. Ideally I would like to be able to use the files after...

    Mic sudgestions!?

I often got a high pitched whistle when using phantom power. As my mic was battery powered I just went with that and never really looked into what might cause it. I've read suggestions it could be battery strength. I wouldn't of mentioned it had I not heard about other people experiencing it...

    Mic sudgestions!?

As there is a lot of talk of DR-100 I'll share my experiences and why I decided to replace it in the end. I originally got it due to the XLR inputs and the fact it was Tascam. The choice was between that and the Zoom but I always Knew Zoom as a consumer brand known for making cheap guitar...

    Mic sudgestions!?

Yeah, but in my experience things are always cheaper in the US. As a rough guide I often find whatever costs £1 in the UK will be just over $1 in the US You're right, it wasn't boomed. Mic was attached to the top of the camera. It's a fairly wide as shottguns go which wasn't perfect for such...

    Mic sudgestions!?

Don't know about your locale but a used Sennheiser ME66 goes for about £150. From my experience of US prices that should actually be around $150. If you can afford a Rode video mic then you should be able to get a Senny. Runs off batteries too as that is also an electret but a very good one...

    Vimeo Problems

Vimeo claim to have sorted i-device playback. Have you tried the app? Found that to work well with Vimeo

    Vimeo Problems

I get that a lot on my work lappy, normally fine at home though. Youtube normally works OK so I guess Vimeo either compresses less or have a less efficient delivery method. As it is fine at home I'm guessing it's a performance issue. Either with computer hardware or internet connection.

    editing Breakdown the lingo please

You can generate it (pro desks or recorders should have a generator or you can genrate it in software) or download a file of generated sound. Generating it yourself means you can be sure it is exactly right, you really don't want a -6dB tone 'turned up a bit', a snippet looped, or a recording...

    Mic sudgestions!?

Cameron, you get what you pay for. If you are just a hobbyist and you are making zero budget films for fun with friends there's no need to spend loads but seeing as you have invested in a semi decent recorder I don't think that mic will do it justice. Remember the great thing about microphones...

    Why the DR100, why not a PM10?

maybe mine is more prone than others, maybe certain mic combinations though I have had problems with quite a few mics. Do you mind me asking what AA batteries you use and do you ever use them long enough to get down to 2 or 1 bars??

    Why the DR100, why not a PM10?

IMO the phantom power on the Tascam might as not be there. It's not very good and prone to whistling. At first I thought it was my unit but I have heard this from other users too. One of the reasons I ditched it, couldn't trust it.

    Choosing lenses for a T3i

With the help of a suitable adaptor you can buy some really good vintage lenses for reasonable prices. Why pay for auto focus and exposure when you don't need it? I really like having an aperture ring cause that saves me combination button presses and can get straight to the aperture settings.
