    Basic UFO in Louisiana (experiment)

I saw a middle-east UFO hoax vid and the complaint on it was that the rate at which it took off was so fast, no living thing could have survived the force. Anyhow... LOL! It was fairly well-done in that it was shot from multiple angles. As I recall, it might've been a viral tactic for an...

    Basic UFO in Louisiana (experiment)

Hey, Flicker! Yeah... to me, something still doesn't look right about the "blast off" part. I tried it at first with no flare, but that didn't look nice either. Heh. In hindsight I should've at least toned the brightness down a bit. Thanks for the feedback!

    Basic UFO in Louisiana (experiment)

NickClapper, dlevanchuk, Cracker Funk: Thank you guys for checking it out and posting feedback! Nick, I appreciate the really kind words! :) wheatgrinder: Good point! For the real deal, I'll be capturing audio off-camera, and won't crunch it so much. In fact, I'm wondering if anyone would...

    Basic UFO in Louisiana (experiment)

My current film project requires a few home video style "encounter" clips with special effects. Here's a short proof-of-concept piece I did in preparation for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz3tgRJ0vWY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz3tgRJ0vWY I didn't want to get too bogged down...

Why do a lot of people still have software shipped instead of downloading?

I imagine it has to do with the feeling of having a product in-hand... all nice and pretty-like. :) Downloading the software and burning it to CD/DVD is pretty much the same, minus the packaging. ...but there's just something to getting the actual package/product from the company. The best...

cinematography Do they make lenses like this?

You can get the Tokina 11-16 in a Canon mount, so it'll work directly with the t2i without converters.

    editing Blender adds Camera Tracking!

I'm one of those guys who downloads the latest version of Blender once every year or so and gives up on it after a while. ;) Though to be honest, I think it's more because I'm so accustomed to the 3D app* I've used since 1998, than it is a fault of Blender. Heh heh. But man... it's got such...

    cinematography t2i technicolor

Good advice. I toggle between Canon's standard and the custom preset, especially for focusing purposes. But it makes sense for a quick exposure check.

    cinematography t2i technicolor

I've really liked using Cinestyle on the t2i and 7D so far. You can get a good idea of the latitude when you go to adjust Levels in post. You'll notice you have quite a bit of space on the black side to slide upward before you start to crush blacks.

    Camera-Mounted Boom Pole Setup

Thanks, Murdock! Pulling focus has worked well so far. I mean... using the same setup prior to adding the boom, which shouldn't affect it. (btw, I'm using one of the follow focus setups w/ the snap gears by indiSystem.) The LCD viewfinder hood on back helps, in that it cuts out light plus...

what's the wince point in short film length

From what I've read online and in books specifically about short films (including one by a Sundance programmer), 10 minutes is the "magic number". Scrutiny increases after that. I've read examples where 30+ minute films get accepted, but it was because they were exceptional. Of course, this...

cinematography Do they make lenses like this?

I can vouch for the Tokina 11-16. Pay attention to the camera angles, particularly on a wide. For fight scenes, telephoto lenses are really good at compressing distance, thus lending realism to a fist making contact. I think on a wide you'd have to be a even more careful with choreography and...

    Camera-Mounted Boom Pole Setup

Hey guys! Just wanted to share pics of a setup I put together recently. Although a boom operator is generally the best bet, I don't always have access to one when it comes time to shoot. Plus, this run-n-gun setup really fits my current project's documentary style. I was initially...

cinematography Continuous shot 10 min short - Best camera and grip set up?

I went with the Light Craft Workshop FADER ND. It stays on the front of my 30mm f/1.4. Super handy for shooting slower shutter speeds in bright situations. ** Be careful when shopping. Some are selling knock-offs where, according to reviews, people wind up with weird purple or green color...

cinematography Continuous shot 10 min short - Best camera and grip set up?

The nice thing about those variable neutral density filters is they rotate freely, very much like a circular polarizer. (At least the ones I've used. Can't really comment on the more expensive Singh-Ray variety.)

cinematography Continuous shot 10 min short - Best camera and grip set up?

Another idea occurred to me. This is something I've done a couple times before... You can use a variable neutral density filter. It'll probably require a bit of practice, but it can be done. What you do is set the VND filter to open and expose for the inside. Then when the camera is...
