    archived-videos Day-for-Night

I find that adding bright practicals is a huge part of it. Car headlights, a strong flashlight, etc. When we see that a practical light is being used by the character, it helps sell the idea that it's night time. Expose for the brighter lights and let most of the rest go black. Highlights...

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Thanks, everyone! :) Wheat, I appreciate the tip! Just added it to my WAB watch list w/ a deadline reminder.

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Thankfully she got a chuckle out of my initial email and came back with a link to their submission form and a fee waiver code. Turned out nice. :)

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Thanks, Steve! I do not. :( Sent it to a couple of big ones over that way but didn't get in.

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Well... as it turns out... this wasn't a scam. I feel like an idiot. (Darn all the scam emails for making me gun-shy.)

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Hrm... In doing further research, I did learn "@TribecaFilmFestival.org" is actually listed on Tribeca's contact page. (Cara is one of the programmers, btw... but I didn't give much credence to that, as the email address is the main thing.) So seeing as how Tribeca owns the .org domain, I'm...

    Yet another scam... (festival spoofing)

Here's another scam email to add to the list. Of course, the ACTUAL festival site is tribecafilm.com... NOT TribecaFilmFestival.org. The biggest clue for me was the fact that Tribeca would NOT directly email some country boy about his bizarre, southern sci-fi mockumentary. Heh. ;) I...

Thanks for sharing this. Got a similar email yesterday (right down to the "wonderful film" part.) Although mine was from "Evan Greene" (Hrmmmm...) Not on the up-and-up.

    filmmarketingservices(DOT)com?

I was contacted by someone from "Film Marketing Services" (filmmarketingservicesDOTcom) in regards to distribution of a film I recently completed. Did a search here on IndieTalk for the name/website (as well as the contact's name) expecting to read about others' experience with them, but didn't...

Documentaries, what do I have to do?

All great advice so far! I agree with what the others are saying. Sound is key. The documentary can be shot on VHS but you'll want crisp, clear sound. Some other stuff, which you may already know: - Ask open-ended questions, as opposed to yes/no answer stuff. Imagine the audience having...

DIY microphone for gritty, low-fi vocals

For anyone looking to get a low-quality vocal sound in their recordings (ie. telephone conversation effect, or grungy low-fi vocals in music), this may be of interest: More information available here: http://www.frankladner.com/homemade-microphone-for-low-fi-vocal-recording/ The electronic...
