    Small and Somewhat Pocketable Camcorder

Couple of people have brought up the Black magic. I'd view that as way too limited a camera for what it sounds like he wants, starting with the 3X crop factor making anything even remotely wide problematic right off the bat and continuing through the workflow. I mean it's a cool camera, which...

why do small indie films need AD's and such

'i have a better film and bigger budget than you will ever have" Then I'd suggest using some of that budget to , you know, actually hire some people who know what the F they are doing.

    Shooting faster than 24 fps?

Yep. I can't recall the exact speed, but there is actually a "rule" for how fast a pan can traverse the frame.

    Shooting faster than 24 fps?

I don't think they do generally (avoid the blur).

why do small indie films need AD's and such

At the level of film making you/we are at, actors will mostly be terrible at doing ADR. A couple words here, a sentence there, maybe. Trying to get long stretches of dialogue replaced (because the boom guy didn't know what he was doing)., it will show, big time.

why do small indie films need AD's and such

Oh god, very close to the dreaded words that should send someone running away from a set as fast as possible if they hear them. "We'll fix it in post"

why do small indie films need AD's and such

"really don't care about the craft of filmmaking" That really is the crux of it. Why do I hire an audio guy... because he's skilled in an area I am not. He will do a better job than me (or a random friend). Why do I hire a DP, because he is more skilled and practiced in that craft than me...

why do small indie films need AD's and such

Absolutely they can, particularly docs, but narrative also. Million ways to skin a cat. The films I can make without a substantial support crew don't interest me. I could make them, but have no desire to. That's me. not anybody else, who would have their own situation, aesthetic, interests, etc...

    New 10 page Script

Glad I could help in some way. We were all there at one point. Not pretending to be William Goldman or anything, but written my share of shorts, even a couple that were not too bad. In a feature you have the whole 20 minute or longer 1st act for the audience to form an opinion on who the...

    New 10 page Script

That part does seem pretty silly.

    New 10 page Script

Good direction. In screenwriting it's about WHO it happens to much more than WHAT happens. In my experience, in shorts you have to be super detail oriented on all the visual aspects that expose character. I have to look at a character on screen (and listen of course) and within about a minute...

    New 10 page Script

The "plot" is way over complicated for the length you are trying to work with. You don't have time for back story. You don't really have time for character development (beyond maybe one character and and we better learn a lot very quickly just from his dress, mannerisms, etc...) I'd simplify...

why do small indie films need AD's and such

Other than 48 hour films (which I despise and will never do again), I've never done anything with less than a $3000 or $4000 dollar budget (80% of which went to pay and feed crew), which in the film world is "no budget". In the film world $30,000 or $40,000 can be "no budget" (for a feature)...

why do small indie films need AD's and such

Let's see... 1st AD Script Supervisor Grip x 2 PA x 2 Hair/Makeup combined Audio/Boom DP or at least operator, if Director operates, maybe just an assistant That's what I would consider a bare bones crew for narrative fiction. Could you cut that, sure, but, any time I'm filling the role of any...

Does rewriting always improves a script?

For sure. Knowing when to stop is big as well, but pretty much every script needs at least about 2 or 3 re-writes.

Does rewriting always improves a script?

It's refining, improving, taking a step back and trying to see the forest, not the trees.

why do small indie films need AD's and such

It really depends on the situation. 2 actors and 3 crew members, shooting at your own pace... yeah, sure, you can manage yourself. 6 actors and 9 crew members.... get an AD.

    "The World of Roger Corman"

I'd put the budget for a "straight to DVD" quality Sci Fi film (a professional production on which people are actually getting paid) at about half a million, about where you guys have it. That's Bataan death march like 12 or 14 day shooting schedule and hiring a lot of people who are fairly new...

Does rewriting always improves a script?

When I write a first draft I just plow ahead. I don't go back and re-read much, I definitely don't go back and rewrite sections I have already written. The object is just to forge ahead and get the pages done. Get from A to B relentlessly. THEN the rewrite process is refining that.

why do small indie films need AD's and such

Like an extra bad day on a Troma Films set. I literally walked away from film making almost completely for 2 years now. I'm thinking about, maybe, starting to do a little bit again.
