archived-videos Lord of the Rings Music Video

Thanks for the input, everyone. I have a tripod but this was a spur of the moment thing and I didn't have it with me, unfortunately. rogypro: Actually mine is considerably faster than the original song. It's probably my out of tune piano that makes it odd. I'm fairly certain everyone is...

archived-videos Lord of the Rings Music Video

pictureplanet, could you explain what you mean by type of timewarp? I'm not comparing myself to the film, I made test footage with a theme because filming without any semblance of purpose is boring and counterproductive to the idea of narrative, which, from Beatlesfan's comment of "random...

You could try BlendSwap, they have a ton of stuff of all types for Blender.

Need help developing a one actor short film

I did something almost exactly like this about a year ago. It was a weekend project I made almost entirely by myself, so excuse the lack of quality--but you might get some ideas from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YNMpl8F8c4

Thanks for the feedback, but you could have done without saying I "murdered lord of the rings," or at least explained how. I would have used a stabilizer if I had one. The framerate isn't the problem on the slow motion, since it's always playing at 24fps, the shutter speed is.

archived-videos Lord of the Rings Music Video

I just bought a GH3 and wanted to test drive it before filming anything serious, so I went to the mountains for an afternoon and shot a short Lord of the Rings music video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezztsYsXq_g For those who don't know, Foundations of Stone is the opening music to The...

The true power of green screen

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVQ6hiIPkvM More amazing green screen, from the movie Hugo, along with some other VFX in the movie.

editing Same actor twice (or more) in one shot

True, I was just pointing out that simple actions are simpler to manually mask. But anyway, it will need a mask somewhere, because one character has to be clipped away based on the other character's position. Unless they just cross arms or something super simple like that.

editing Same actor twice (or more) in one shot

Yes, exactly. So what you need are both characters in their entirety on every part of the screen, separable from their background over the part where they intersect. The parts of the screen where they don't intersect are irrelevant so there's no need for green screen there. Actually, come to...

editing Same actor twice (or more) in one shot

If you use a greenscreen, you could put up green only where character A is supposed to stand while filming character B. It would be less keying to do. (Does this make sense? I'll draw some pictures if it doesn't.)

    Gun Shots

Right, but you can, for example, cut away before the actual shot, in which case you still need sound although there's no visual effect required.

    Gun Shots

Do you want realistic or Hollywood flashes? If realistic, go on YouTube and find reference videos of people firing the exact same gun using the the exact same bullets that you want first. Pay attention to how the gun recoils, where/how smoke and fire (if any) come out, and how the casings...

    archived-videos Dogme 95 - "Tracks"

For the first point, then what's the difference between a filter and just, say, changing the white balance in the camera? Would a fisheye lens by fair game? For the second, the examples of murder and weapons aren't necessarily external and obvious. I mean, a prop is a prop, whether it's a tire...

That was interesting. What's the definition of "optical work and filters" (rule 6) and "superficial action" (rule 7)?

Script to Book - Ever Thought About Doing it?

No, my opinions of what makes a film or book good are so tied to the medium, I have a hard time even imagining squashing a story I conceptualized for one into the other. One issue is that in film sentence construction is irrelevant, but it's kind of a big thing on paper. I suppose it all depends...

    editing CGI Help?

"intense CGI work" = a lot of money, or terrible quality (and most likely both). In any case you'd probably have better luck on a CG forum finding someone with the ability to work for you.

    Software

Blender has editing, CG/animation and compositing capabilities. Audacity is a fairly popular sound editor. GIMP is a great alternative to PhotoShop for image editing All three are open source.

    Any other game makers?

I'm actually surprised to see others, I've often found filmmakers to be rather condescending to video games. Me too, that's the main reason I make games :P

    Any other game makers?

Does anyone else here enjoy making games? I've been tinkering for a few years, which is much like my experience with film. I've used Java, GameMaker, and Blender at different times and I've also made mods for other games on various development kits. I'm currently using Unity to make a zombie...
