    Few things for sale...

Hope I'm OK posting this here :) We've just wrapped on Arkham Sanitarium and I've got a few things for sale including an LED light (Datavision) and an Atomos Ninja ProRes Hard Disk Recorder - if you're interested, take a look at my eBay auctions here...

    website in UK for equipment

I use videogear.co.uk for most of my stuff - if you're on a tight budget there's indikit.com (just don't buy their 'pro' redhead lights - they're dreadful - I'm using 3 at the moment and HATE them :D)

    3D VFX Website

By 3D VFX I'm assuming you mean Maya, Max, Softimage etc? Firstly, be warned that this stuff isn't easy - sometimes it's more technical than it is art and there's lots of disciplines involved in creating great CG (computer graphics) - so much so, that large studios tend to have specialists that...

    Your Screenwriting Experience

Two weeks? I've written two screenplays - Arkham Sanitarium (which we begin shooting in two weeks) - that took 12 months and my first screenplay, 'Survivor's Diary' which took five years :D

How to bind script correctly for European production houses

    We don't have 3 ring hole-punches here (2 or 4) - 2 is fine.

    Obtaining rights to a book?

One more question - assuming we don't obtain the rights, do you think this will cause a problem regarding entering the film for festivals in the US? The H.P. Lovecraft film festivals frequently screen short film adaptations that don't appear to be licensed...

    Obtaining rights to a book?

Yes - they're fine with this (thank goodness!).

    Obtaining rights to a book?

This is why we're attempting to reach a deal with both parties (and why there's limits to what we can offer an individual company) - we also have a private investor that's due 10% of the worldwide profits so we have to be careful with what we give away.

    Obtaining rights to a book?

Thanks for the advice guys - it's a bizarre scenario and it may help for you to know it's regarding the copyrights for H.P. Lovecraft. It's commonly believed that these are now out of copyright however, two separate companies in the US claim otherwise. One company (a publisher) claims it owns...

    Obtaining rights to a book?

Hi Rik - thanks for the advice! 20% is what we were thinking as an initial offer. As the copyrights have expired in the EU, we can make the film anyway - the problem is that the US is really our target market. This will be our first feature, so we don't have a track record of any kind yet - all...

Why does no one want to be a Producer?

Producers hire directors - not the other way around. Also, I think you may have confused the role of Producer with that of 1st AD (Assistant Director) - the AD works with the Director on all the planning for the film - the Producer raises the finance. That's a gross over-simplification but...

    Obtaining rights to a book?

Hi gang, I was wondering if anyone here had experience of getting the rights to a book? Specifically, I'm speaking to one of the two supposed copyright holders of some old short horror stories regarding our adaptation of 3 of those stories. In the EU, (and most of the world) these stories are...

    books about filmmaking

I haven't seen them but I have to give props to Danny Draven's 'Filmmaker's Book of the Dead' - an interesting, funny, concise guide to low-budget horror filmaking that covers a lot of ground - nothing too deep or insightful but useful nonetheless.

    SONY OR PANASONIC??

Hi David! I'm in the UK so I've got the 25p 'E' model - haven't really had a need to drop the footage down to 24p (and if I did, it's a lot lazier here than doing a 3:2 pulldown :)) I'm doing a shoot outdoors this coming Sunday - I'll post some footage up if you like...

    SONY OR PANASONIC??

We've just got a Sony NEX-VG10 to shoot our feature with and I'm loving it - I picked up a Sony 50mm f1.4 to go with it and the quality is breathtaking - when we shoot we're gonna run the HDMI out uncompressed to either an Atomos Ninja or a (rented) NanoFlash. That said... If we had the money...
