    SQN Mixers - any opinions?

I use an SQN 4s mini, which i would imagine is 10 years old at least, and been used by tons of people and it still sounds fantastic, they are absolutely bomb proof. They are however ridiculously over complicated in comparison to the sound devices mixers. I think the best thing about them is that...

    For $50 I made...

My producer has just had this same problem, (he has the money so we sent him for the shopping) he ended up going to costco and buying the sandwich platters, which were really good, and multipack water and snacks then a kettle from his house. turned out alright in the end but i guess it depends...

Hi guys, so I have my first casting tomorrow, and I have never done one before, so basically looking for some tips! Were looking for a person to play a medieval character, we have shortlisted some actors on spotlight and invited them to the casting. The project is a short drama, where a young...

    Audio Curriculum Discussion...

also if you could post properly editing and sound designed footage, it might show beginners how important sound is, especially if the footage has 1-2 tracks of video and 20 tracks for dialogue, music, atmos and fx

    Audio Curriculum Discussion...

this would be fantastic, I am by no means an expert ( in fact im easily more beginner than anything) but i do feel more confident in sound ability than anything else, but I am always on the hunt for help or info, so having one big post would be amazing! booming techniques would benefit so many...

lighting Indoor lighting with tungsten lights ?

the amount of light in your hallway is also something you need to think about, because if you blue up your lights you lose 1-2 stops worth of light. you could also instead of blueing the actual lights just cheat the white balance, by which i mean white balance your camera, with white paper or...

character Help on a two character film

I like the idea, but as mile creations said, you are really going to struggle keeping an audience engaged for that long, there have been a couple of films lately that have had the majority of the film set in one place, e.g. 127 hours and buried, I havent seen buried, however 127 hours was...

editing What do you think about the editing of this underground Dubstep music video?

Ah fair enough, I did think with it being shot at night, depending on the budget and equipment you had that you might struggle changing it too much, looks amazing as is though! by warmer, yes i meant a little more yellow to it, although it may have pushed the video to more of a 70's-80's zombie...

Definitely the Black magic cinema camera, or a sound devices 664 field mixer, and various new mics to go with it. thats all wishes though can't see any of that being bought for a while :( in the short term, couple of new prime lenses, Shoulder rig with follow focus and matte box (even if its a...

lighting Lighting - To show story arc?

thanks for the replies guys, went back to the location again the other day at a few different times to see what the sunlight was like, turns out it can get kinda strong in the part of the church we want to use, which is definately going to affect the lighting i had hoped for, but its an amazing...

Documentaries, what do I have to do?

get more footage than you could ever dream of using, if your doc is 15 minutes long get 8 hours of footage if not more, I once heard a little factoid that in a feature doc every 30 minutes on screen was 24 hours of footage before the edit, it may not be totally true but its a good thing to have...

cinematography Is it worth getting a full frame camera?

I've seen films shown at festivals that were done on iphones for gods sake, people put too much emphasis on new tech, granted new techonology makes the job easier, but it doesnt make you more creative. People seem to spend way too much time on the equipment websites looking at the latest...

editing What do you think about the editing of this underground Dubstep music video?

haha i really enjoyed this, pretty different compared to most music/dub videos. only thing i would add is that, I would liked the video to been have been warmer, if that makes sense? I dunno how much the video has been colour graded, so maybe this isn't the final cut? just my two cents anyway haha

lighting Lighting - To show story arc?

So I have a project that starts shooting on the 12th of december, its basically about a young orphan boy being knighted. The young boy will be standing at the tomb of his parents (when i say tomb, i think i mean effigies, just not sure of the word) he will be silent and introvert, the focus is...

    $2000-what should I buy?

Brilliant now it makes sense, with all that at my disposal I would definitely be making some big (short) films. before you had explained it just seemed like you may have bitten off more than you could chew if you get me. but it seems like you defiantly have the props side of things down, if you...

    $2000-what should I buy?

I may have missed a couple of replies, as i have a had a drink and I'm reading kinda' quick, but would you not be better off buying the best equipment you can possibly afford? rather than spending all your money on what seems a extremely expensive production, Im not being mean or nasty or...
