yeah you definitely want to go the handheld rig not a Steadicam. with a $30 budget you can definitely make it work with handheld shoulder rig but not likely with a 30 dollar Steadicam
I need a good test scenario. A known piece of footage, with a known set of operations to produce a baseline before I begin any kinda of tweaking. I hate non data driven configuration changes.
Id ditch some one of the high end cams and rent 5 or 6 go pros.
A gopro in the duck blind,
a gorpo in the pickup truck
a gopro in each room (security cam style)
you get the idea..
data is your next problem. A day of reality TV is nothing like a day of narrative film. How are you gonna...
I think a $30 diy shoulder rig will function WAY better that a $30 steady cam.
Use pvc pipe to build the rig https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNCwPDXODMs
Build a hose clamp FF

Just to cause confusion and disharmony...
if we did the circle analogy with MIDI then your your limited to only 2 digits of precision for the value of Pi and R when using Circumference = Pi * R squared when playing back the performance information needed to create your circle on the circle...

Download this program http://www.f2ko.de/downloads/cmdtools/record.zip
unzip and run the executable
Command line only, no silly gui
you tell it how long to record and what to call the output file
Thats it. Recording done.
Hi all,
not a lot of activity in this area. So hers something..
My newish PC
intel core i7 cpu 3.47 GHZ (12 HT cores)
24 GB ram
Windows 7 64 bit.
Has started feeling rather sluggish at time on Premiere pro operations with footage from my hacked GH2.
My project is stored on raid 0 drive...
Iv done a lot of very tight walking handheld, not steady cam, but hand held rig with my 50mm. You don't want a razor thin depth of field, if its outside day light stop the lens down as much as you can get a way with. Having a field of view that is too narrow makes it very hard to keep focus...
assisting is a great idea.
that was how I got hooked. (full disclosure, Im only a hobbyist, and have no plans to change that) I "hired" a director and just did what he asked. I was more a partner in pre-production but on the day, I was not much more than a PA, and it was glorious!
a little movement goes a long way.
Id avoid steady cam, its too much a specific skill that you need serious expertise to do well. Though, renting a MOVI or similar gyro rig sorta makes me rethink that.
Id stick to short jib on good sticks and a good fluid head for most everything. For...
psst.. wanna know my secret to finding locations..
go places
open your eyes
it only has to LOOK like a real location
you have to like to explore, or at least get around some. I had driven by this turn off many times. I knew the area in a general sense.
You have to see every place you go...
Its a soft rejection. Ignore everything after they said no. Get used to it.
Problems:
You have no money
You have no experience
You have nobody attached (big named actor, experienced directory, etc. )
Fix one ore more of the above problems and you might be able to make a movie.
yes, that's exactly what I meant ^^^ (at least that's what I'm telling everyone from now on)
FWIW, I did have help with one shot. When the truck, ahem, minivan, pulls up. My 9 year old daughter was running the camera!
Thanks, that makes me happy!
If its not obvious I didn't record any audio. With the limited people (just me), short daylight and noob acting skill I figured it would just complicate things beyond my ability to execute in a timely manner.
The scene was simple enough to tell visually...
