If I remember correctly they shot the first actor in the right pose/light and comped that onto a plate of the second (masked) actor wearing a latex mask. They tracked and stretched the first actors face to the latex mask thats pulled off.

Looks like you just need a higher resolution image as your reflection map.

A Canon 50mm prime lens with an adapter would be a great place to start. You can get one on ebay for less than $100. You will lose the autofocus functions, but you need to learn to shoot with manual controls anyway.
