How much would it cost me?

I've mentioned this before, but for what it's worth, if all you've got is a T2i I wouldn't worry too much about buying superfluous "gear" just to get it. I have a T3i, and any "rig" I own I built it myself. Sure they may not be as shiny as a $500 system, but they also don't set me back $500...

archived-videos Pete Middleton Pictures complete film list

The sheer quantity of works is really impressive. I haven't seen them all yet, but it's awesome that you're able to be consistent and keep making things!

    archived-videos Spud Gun Fun!

Hey everyone! This is a really quick video I did spur-of-the-moment. My friends and I made a potato gun for the first time, so I filmed a few things. Needless to say, it was a fun night :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFBlOX5M6PA

    Youtube Vs. Vimeo

Keep in mind that this isn't a black and white distinction. I have seen videos go legitimately viral on Vimeo (http://vimeo.com/31158841), and there is very high-quality filmmaking to be had on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/user/juliansmith87 ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jmbv8kevQ-E)...

    Trusted Film Critics

I always look at the stars/read the reviews from Dave White on www.movies.com. Mostly because he has a sense of humor, and he qualifies why he gave it a particular rating. Even though I don't always agree with his star ratings, I do agree with his reasoning behind them. I will also read...

An interesting interview and good philosophy to go by...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBbGFr5BVro This is an interesting interview of Gavin O'Connor's unconventional process in what he calls "method filmmaking." If you can't watch the whole thing, 47:25 to the end is the best piece of philosophy I've heard with regards to making art.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

The Grey -- 9.5/10 An amazing, contemplative film. Characters have awesome chemistry, the action is great, the elements that the men face are real, and the cinematography is off the charts!

    What's been going on?

-Some of us entered the Youtube Your Film Festival contest. -I recently got some "real" camera equipment to work with (a non-ebay lens and a new steadicam). -Trying to get the ball rolling on some short videos to do this summer. Welcome back!

If anyone doesn't believe that direct connection with users (viewers) and building a fan base from the ground up is more important than millions of dollars in ads, read more Seth Godin.

What's wrong with youtube? That's an existing website that clocks in over a billion users daily :D

A great one-shot short that isn't obnoxious about it!

Just today, Whitestone released their newest short film. It's a one-shot dialogue piece, but instead of obnoxiously advertising the film as such, the format quietly takes the story to new heights. Of course everything else about the film is top-notch, and this was the most emotionally...

    Finally... :)

As you may know, I've had the DIY steadicam woes for a while (read: years). I finally settled on a Glidecam-esque design that, while not solid, served its purpose. I used it with varying degrees of success, but anything more than walking (I often run, and I mean run, with it) required me to...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Apparently YouTube cycles out the free movies in their "movies" section (I reviewed Defendor from that but now it isn't available). Snatch. - 8.5/10 (you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/movie?v=preWi1lCHaw) This is a stylish and darkly funny film. The style reminds me a lot of...

    YouTube Partnership question

Gotcha. So as long as I don't sign up to be a "Partner" I can monetize one video without worrying what's on the other videos. Thanks!

    YouTube Partnership question

Hey all! Once I start to get more serious about making videos, I'm going to market them better and hopefully be able to monetize off of YouTube (yeah I know they don't pay much, but still ;)). On YouTube's guidelines for monetizing video, they say that your video can't have any sort of...

What would you do with a months time on your hand?

If I had a month to do absolutely anything (film related), I would travel and make something like this: http://vimeo.com/36519586 To this day it's one of the most inspiring videos to me, and I don't get out much anyway :)

    Cheap Shoulder Support Stabilizers?

You people and your fancy gear... My shoulder support is literally a 3-foot long piece of scrap wood with a bolt at one end to attach the camera. I hold one hand out underneath the camera, and the other hand for downward pressure on the middle of the board. And hey, it works pretty well! :D

    ||= Shot by a Canon! T2i T3i etc...

T3i footage and my first time trying out the Super Takumar 50mm 1.4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRPj1ulC4j4 Pretty much went from conception to completion in a day, so the story ain't there. But for what it's worth, the only light source was the sun and it didn't always look sucky!

Quick DIY project - portable diffuse lighting!

Inspiration struck yesterday, so I decided to make a quick DIY project to help diffuse the oft-harsh light that the sun causes. The idea is to make it portable, so much so that I can hold the diffuser out with one hand, hold the camera in the other (pressed against my body), and move with both...
