    4 Director (and actor!) Questions

Thank you everyone, really quality advice. :) Fantasyscifi, I like your approach to working with actors. I posted this a little back: http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?p=399785#post399785 wondering about how different directors approach rehearsals. How much time do you usually spend...

    4 Director (and actor!) Questions

True point, haha. But is the actor's job, or both actor and director's job?

editing What do you look for in an editor?

Hi peeps, When searching for a film editor for your project, what would you personally look for in their reels?

    4 Director (and actor!) Questions

    1) How do you structure auditions? (and specifically, what works for you when meeting/testing an auditioner for the first time) 2) How much do you like to analyze a character... do you try to answer Uta Hagen's 9 questions, and think up a whole backstory, for example, or do you leave that all to...

What is a good structure for rehearsals?

Hey guys, I just have to get these rehearsal-questions out of me. I know this is when I get dry/abstract responses “be adaptable, do what works best for you, clear communication, establish trust” and that’s because these are all of the right answers. But I’m wondering about specifics and...

    Film coloring

What is meant by a "pastel" look to the film? Can a film have both a pastel look and saturated colors? Thanks :/

cinematography I don't know much about cameras

Is there any benefit to shooting on a red one other than the fact that there is 4k? What else is there besides resolution to look at in a camera?

    Choosing color palette / grading

Sorry, I meant "how do you like going about deciding wardrobe" That's my main question, general process, but furthermore: I want to have a strongly enforced color palette, but I also want the characters to wear what they would naturally wear. If these two factors don't agree, what do you do?

    Choosing color palette / grading

Thanks. And do you like to go about deciding wardrobe? I get too bogged down on adding the right color/style...

    Choosing color palette / grading

First, let me know how y'all choose your color palettes. I've read up on color theory, etc. but took a while to decide on one myself. I'd love to here your thoughts. And here are some related questions: >How does one best integrate color palette into wardrobe? I assume a character's...

What do I pay a producer?

Hi I'm making (writing/directing) a low budget 30 minute film over the summer, and I have 8,000 to get it made (or at least get 75% of it made before raising more funds. I've met somebody who is willing to handle everything production-related, and he seems to know his stuff, and he says he'll...

    Make up and more directing

Hey foks, sorry for all these posts, and thanks for your useful feedback! I'm combining two unrelated questions to save space: First, there's a scene in my film where there are 5 children ages 7-10 playing at the beach. My producer says he can hire 12-16 year olds and make them look younger...

    Screenplay editing

Hi folks, I've written and beta-tested my screenplay before presenting it to the producer I'm working with. He told me to send it to a screenplay editor to look at "continuity, grammar, etc." (or something generic like that). I've already gone through my script thoroughly asking specific...

    Newbie Question, go!

Hey everyone! A short film I wrote was shot a few months ago on a red epic, but then the editor took it down to 1080 in post, saying that it's easier to edit and that most theaters don't show 4k anyways. Now I'm working on a full-length summer project that I am directing, just a casual thing...

    Rehearsing actors

Interesting, I read somewhere not to do this, that it feeds the actors' insecurities and they begin to judge their own performance and direct themselves, and no longer can stay inside the character's thoughts/experiences. Maybe it's worth a shot, though. Thanks.
