The Girl Without A Song - Feature Project

Sounds like a great concept. Are you shooting in Toronto? Gonna get cold very soon! :P Best of luck!

    Miami!?

I now know two filmmakers who've moved from L.A. to Miami. They swear it's a nearly untapped mecca for indie funding. Great weather. Beautiful locations. Lots of money and potential investors who haven't been either sucked dry or hit on 20 times a day, seven days a week, to fund a film...

The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

Just discovered Jake Bugg. Very cool... sort of Nick Drake meets the Everly Brothers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=watch?v=3EL20VKlvbs

How does writing a horror script, save on budget exactly?

I think ever since Blair Witch made a ton of money there was a resurgence of interest in horror for people working with a micro-budget. Everywhere you looked, people were asking for found-footage scripts.

    Nicholl Sad Face

Joseph, LORCA hangs in limbo, bro. Hopefully not for long.

    Nicholl Sad Face

Holy crap! Nicholl just published the names, titles, loglines and contact info for this year's semifinalists. I just got 10 requests to read my scripts by prodco's from all over the world in the last 5 minutes. One cool perk I hadn't thought of!

Inside Every DP is a frustrated Director?

Interesting article on Indiewire: "Do All Cinematographers Really Want To Direct?" http://www.indiewire.com/article/do-all-cinematographers-really-want-to-direct-20140917 Their list of DP's who've turned to Directing is missing my favorite, Nicholas Roeg.

This looks great. Will definitely keep an eye on you guys!

    Nicholl Sad Face

The above was, of course, a faux rant. I was honored to make it to the semi's. Thanks for the congrats, all. I appreciate it. The two scripts are: 1. LORCA. This was a collab script written with a writing buddy, Jonathan Lu. Logline: The true life story of Spain’s greatest poet...

The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

I know most of you millenials out there can't stand Springsteen, so I thought I'd post this. :D This is a cover of a Sting song performed on Sting's birthday. Although not generally known for his guitar playing, I think most people can agree he should be after watching this...

Thoughts on a feature length script

Good luck! Remember, if you want to compare literary forms with film, a short film is flash fiction, a feature film is a short story, and a novel corresponds to a series (like TRUE DETECTIVE). Your instinct seems to be to overwrite and overstuff your script, so now you know what to fight...

    Nicholl Sad Face

So I had two scripts make it to the Semifinals of the Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting this year and I just heard from them that I'm NOT one of the 10 Finalists. Anybody here ever make it to the Finals? I know judging can be incredibly subjective, but I figured I had a fair chance...

    Somebody screaming in a screenplay

To my mind, screaming belongs in action, not dialogue. If it's during dialogue, then switch to action. For example: JOSEPH (while pissing) If that badger down there tries to bite my dick off again while I'm taking a piss, I swear I'm gonna... Joseph SCREAMS! Make sense? Cheers! -Charles

Hello, Rank Amateur Here in Peace!

Hi, Alex. This is a great site to learn about screenwriting. But if you want to write good screenplays, nothing substitutes for reading good books on the craft, reading lots of good screenplays, studying the art of dramatic structure, and watching lots and lots of great films. Hope you're...

    Script Feedback

Richy, Cracker, thanks! I think when you work with a storyline for a significant period of time, the beats and plot seem inevitable to you, even if they aren't to someone first exposed to it. That makes reveals and other suspense elements difficult to judge without help from neutral readers...

    Script Feedback

Thanks, FantasySciFi. I appreciate you taking the time to read it. Your points are well-taken and I'll keep them in mind. I'm finishing up the first full draft and will post it here when I feel confident I won't be embarrassed by it for anyone with an interest. Cheers!

    Feedback wanted on new script

You don't need camera angles in a spec script. If it gets produced, the director will mark the living shit out of it and your camera angles will only piss him/her off. All you want to get across is the STORY.

    Script Feedback

Hi, Folks! It's good to be back! I see many of the usual suspects are still alive and kicking; great to see you guys again. I'd appreciate feedback on the following script excerpt. It's the first 25 pages of a feature horror/fantasy genre piece. Anything you'd care to comment on would, of...
