Inside Every DP is a frustrated Director?

I can see not all DPs wanting to become directors. I directed an actress who told me she would never want to be one, cause it's too much stress. Perhaps a lot of DPs feel the same way.

Obviously a huge generalisation. My own DP used to direct, but hated it. He still directs a few of his own projects (documentary work, though), but usually brings me in to codirect. He doesn't really direct said documentaries because he wants to direct, but because thats where he thinks the most interesting stories are (i prefer narrative) and is still interesting in his own vision - but would rather do little directing. I guess in that collaboration he's more of a producer.
