Yeah, stick around. I admit I had a bit of fun at your expense (my Nigerian Prince thing), but it wasn't mean-spirited. Your naivete was just too fat and juicy to allow it to walk down the street without a pinprick or two for your own good. You'll have more street-cred with your shiny boots...

    offer

Ok, got it. Sorry, just wanted to make sure. You never know nowadays. There's all kinds of con artists and riff-raff out there. Some guy from Nigeria who claimed he was some kind of prince wanted me to give him $10,000 and he'd give me a couple million dollars in return. Fortunately, I read...

Wait. This sounds fishy to me. What part of the $25M do I get and when would I get it? Is Reggie Von somebody important and do I have to share with him? This isn't a porno, is it? Because I won't put up with having my name on a goddamned porno flic.

I'm old-school. William Goldman, Ben Hecht, David Mamet and Paul Schrader. As for Sorkin, I'm sorry but the guy is a train-wreck. He obviously doesn't believe in subtext since everything on everybody's mind comes bubbling up out of the froth in their brain like a thick gooey sludge of...

    Help with a short scene

FantasySciFi, Wow. Many, many thanks. My silence was due to a short illness, not ingratitude. This is very helpful, indeed. warmest, -Charles

    Help with a short scene

Thanks for the advice and comments, WalterB. Ha! Seriously. The director's pretty savvy and would break my nose in a clapperboard if I turned in a scene like that. Actually, now that I think of it, there IS a scene where we use a V.O. reading one of Lorca's poems. Well, shit. Now you've got...

Rights when your short is turned into a feature

Some great advice from Sweetie and Rik. It's a judgment call; you need to be able to judge how good your story is and how badly the prodco wants it. and then, if the prodco has made films comparable in quality to what you're looking for, determine how badly you want THEM to get involved. And...

    Screenwriting Hiatus

That's an excellent idea. I do a lot of driving in my "real" job, and keep a small voice recorder nearby and record whatever ideas pop into my head. When I'm not driving, I usually have a small notepad in my pocket and jot down a note or two. Most are meh, but I know for a fact I've lost some...

    Help with a short scene

Filman, Nick, Maz, FantasySciFi, many thanks for reading and offering your thoughts. I greatly appreciate it. Filman, that's the question, right? Can the images work without you, the reader (viewer) knowing the details of where the images came from and their context? I'm not sure. Nick...

That was fun. Well done all around, and congrats. I only know the Potter franchise by being dragged by the wife to the theater to watch each movie and I'm generally aware of an amorphous Potterdom swirling about in the ether with their battles and skirmishes and endless discussions. What's...

    Help with a short scene

Hola, my friends. I'm currently working on a rewrite of my script on the poet Federico Garcia Lorca at the director's request. This is an added scene. Background: Lorca's plays and poetry were heavily influenced by gypsy legends, music and dance from his native Andalucia in Spain. In this...

I finished my screenplay but now I need some help

Furthermore, there's no shame in not having a perfect first-draft screenplay. I can guarantee you it's not perfect. My critique won't be deliberately cruel, but it won't sugar-coat anything, either, and I promise you it will be totally honest. That's the only way to learn, in my experience...

I finished my screenplay but now I need some help

You wouldn't have to make the script public. I've decided that if someone wants me to read an entire screenplay in this forum, which takes up a significant amount of my time, then in exchange that person can put up with me posting my critique here, where others who may also be new writers can...

I finished my screenplay but now I need some help

m.charles60 (at) att.net I'll read it on one condition: that I post my comments here in this forum. I have a writing deadline this weekend, so it will likely be Monday or Tuesday before I can get back with you, though. Let me know. Cheers!

    Online Collaboration

Not aware of any. According to the internets, the latest version of Final Draft (9.0.4) includes "CollaboWrtier," which allegedly allows multiple FD users to collaborate online in realtime. I'd definitely read some reviews before I invested in it, though. I'm happy with my 8.0 version.

    Screenwriting Hiatus

There's no more important choice you'll make as a screenwriter than the concept/premise/subject of your story. I've heard several interviews with top writers who say coming up with two or three strong, viable story ideas per year is a good year. Don't sweat it. Just keep your mind's eyes and...
