THE GENERAL REGISTRY OF CLICHE LINES

C'mon now folks, you've heard them in a thousand flicks, they are the true hallmarks of trashy writing.... Vent your spleen and post up those lousy lines. Here's a couple or so to start the ball rolling... =========================================== "We've got company" "But, James, it's too...

THE WALLY - Expanding the American consciousness

A klutz CAN be attractive. A Wally is never is - he wear taped up glasses, a duffle coat and eats out of picnic boxes. There is also one other element about a Wally I forgot to mention: a Wally has HUGE self-confidence - he always BELIEVES that he is smart and cool and that his stupid way of...

THE WALLY - Expanding the American consciousness

One cliche which really irritates me is the way Americans divide school students into the two basic groups of the High School jock who is cool but stupid and the geek who is unattractive but really smart. In England, we have another concept that is so sadly missing in American films... THE...

Writers using flashy words for the sake of it?

Actually, it might still seem cliche. Whilst an army might have to march, in other contexts, a froceful bipedal advance by a character could use a better range of words, like STRUT or STRIDE... which, inded, might convey a more colourful action than MARCH.

Writers using flashy words for the sake of it?

Writers using flashy words for the sake of it?

"Madly" is NOT flashy, but TRASHY!!! I find that my comment here is, itself, a reflection on the paucity of quality in writing amongst the American population. For "bouncing madly" is NOT flashy, but trashy. "Madly" is simply a clumsy, overused word which indicates poor diction skills. Any...

Screenplay Contest Scams And Lack Of Professionalism

Incredible! In the last few seconds, I received this email from Sun Valley Film Fesitval stating... "We had an extraordinary amount of entries and we regret to inform you that your script was not selected. " ...Even though my screenplay was never even uploaded according to WAB!

Screenplay Contest Scams And Lack Of Professionalism

I am trying to avoid Film Festival scams. Does anyone know of any that are scams? Here are a couple where I got caught... 1. There was a screenplay contest run by a department at an American University. I sent in my screenplay and paid. I also emailed a complaint as their web site wasn't...

    Finer Points on My Screenply.

Actually the correct statistics are... About 250,000 screenplays arrive, new, in Tinseltown a year. Of these, 650 or so are made into films. Of these, about 200 turn in a profit to the writer. If the total made by writers is evenly distributed to every screenplay written by anyone, it works...
