    advice for my first film

h- You really haven't given us enough info to base our opinion on, but here's a few quick thoughts: - 8 pages is roughly 2+ days, I would schedule 3 days since this is your first go. - Are the locations miles apart? It takes a lot of time to move even a small crew. You have at least 6...

    archived-videos Poptent Advice?

My film partner and I are about to shoot a 45sec spot for Poptent. For those of you who have submitted to a Poptent assignment, we could use some advice.... We both have film experience (but are relative newbies), so beyond the basics (high production values, good sound, etc.), are there any...

    Video Template for Final Draft?

Greetings, All- I'm looking for a template for Final Draft, one for videos, commercials, etc. Two-column, Visual-Audio format... Don't really want to pay Final Draft $99 for their "A/V" software, and don't see one on their list of templates for download... I'm using the one Celtx provides...

Good short films with only 1 actor

Agreed. Awesome, had me the whole way... My only comment is that it's primarily his POV, and so would have liked him to look at his hands first, then reveal what he has done.

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

A- Nice improvements, well done. Thought you might have Chelo's V.O. start earlier, when we first see the physical anomalies. Also, the "early-onset" dialogue seems too clinical, same for later with "but the mind…" Unless of course, it's part of her character arc. If it reads well enough to...

Annie of the Thousand Lilies - Short

A- As with other reviewers, do think you're trying to pack too much into 6 pages. The basic writing quality is there, but the story line is too much for such a brief short, to the point you truncate visuals a few times (e.g., the line on page two, "Time has passed.") It almost visualizes as...

    Feedback on my latest short

Why not do the fall in focus? Do think it would be stronger that way, as it's his story. Then edit selectively so you don't see the stunt man's face (i.e., if not using the actor).

    Video storyboard examination

D- Interesting idea; I think you're on the right track with thinking additional close-ups, different POV (such as from an apartment window, through the front windshield, etc.), different vehicles, even weird shots you might never think would work. And simply fly by the seat of your pants and...

    Feedback on my latest short

Good job! Some thoughts: - You built up Barry's anger over a few pages, nice. - "fall" got used in three straight dialogues, and you described him falling off his bike. Seemed redundant, how about Barry says it once? - The "ha" in the dialogue got annoying, you might consider parentheticals...

    New idea i'm researching...any opinions?

Great possibilities for a story. Be wary of getting buried in a "laundry list" of his accomplishments (like one of my scripts that mostly bored readers). Go for the heart, his passion. If you write it well, I can see a star going for it if you can get it to them. Cool!

    Shooting a Potentially Boring Event

C- Is it possible some of the quilts have old, previously-used or worn material that have a history? I.E., what if a quilt piece not only is part of her bridesmaid dress, but she has a picture of it you can video while she's talking about it? That sort of idea can go a long way to bring their...

    Locations: Our Necessary Evil

Agreed. Also, if you have a lot of films being made in your area, you might find a locations scout / manager who can not only relieve you of the task, but also may have some dynamite ideas on modifying or condensing locations that will work for your story and ultimately save you time and...
