    Shooting with a FZ1000?

I'm not familiar with the FZ1000 except by internet search, but an interchangeable lens is preferable to me. For narrative, I'd rather have one or two fast primes than a builtin zoom. 4k doesn't really hold any appeal to me. I own a GH3 and love it, though I've only used a half dozen other...

archived-videos Dreaming of Space short film

Thanks! Yeah, lots of grain. If we had a second day of shooting I would've changed some of the floating and gotten more coverage of the middle segment.

I just finished Dreaming of Space, a short adventure into science fiction and fun effects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gb-Ad-TvFUI What do you think?

    Making a VERY Controversial Film

My university has a listserv for people interested in volunteering on student films. You might check if schools near you have something similar. Some of my friends find actors by putting up flyers in the drama department. As for your pitch, leave off "VERY Controversial" because you're going to...

    Next Step Above a DSLR

Black magic cameras (not the pocket version) have EF mount versions so you could use your Canon lenses on them. At one poin, I considered getting a BM Pocket, but I wanted plenty of buttons to quickly access controls, and I hate touch screens, so I didn't. I don't know what your preferences...

I demand more than short movie award funtion ,i.e., T.V screening short movies

I considered posting that scene from Austin Powers, but was too lazy to look for it. I get the general gist, but honestly the only phrase I immediately understood was "merchant banker."

    Why do you make films?

Cool! Mobile is definitely not my area. I've never owned a phone capable of playing games. I love playing around with code; I never care whether my games are fun to play as long as they're fun to build, so I obviously have no business intents with my creations. Sort of the same as my films.

    Why do you make films?

Yes and yes, and also for pocket money. What kind of games did you work on? I'm sort of into game design as well.

    cinematography Dialog with a Robot

This is my point, and it's boring. Or, in nicer terms, it's not as interesting as it could be. Yes, these are the questions everyone should ask about everything they do with film. (And, really, everything else is life--though, in film, there's no risk to making something different to try out an...

    cinematography Radiation Fuzz/ Artifacts

As an audience, I would have no idea what effect radiation has on film and wouldn't make the connection. However, if it is a cool effect (and you mention that you use other strange scenes) I would probably enjoy it, assuming it's just some sort of grungy aesthetic. Or, you could establish...

    cinematography Dialog with a Robot

ProfAnon: Sent you a message. I didn't post it publicly because the shot isn't done yet. Exactly. If you're basically showing something audiences have seen so many times they have literally become conditioned to expect it, then why are you showing it? (sort of a general question I ask myself...

    cinematography Dialog with a Robot

Personally, I think an over-the-tv is fine. Don't forget about a beside-the-tv angle. If these don't work out with your story, then you could also get creative with mirrors in your sets if the typical angles don't look right and you need the computer to appear to be looking at the actor without...

    1. Yes, especially on the bottom picture 2. Left, also looks a bit bluer 3. I think ~10, it's been sitting in a closet unused for most of that time and I just pulled it out yesterday. I also tested on my 1-year old laptop and I can kinda tell the difference there as well but not as pronounced.

    Questions On Getting Into Filmmaking

If I were you, I would go with a DSLR. Gopros aren't built for manual control (or really control at all). Sage mentioned a hacked GH2, which would not be a bad option by any means, but bear in mind that wide angle shots on a MFT size sensor like the GH2's are harder than on APS-C sensors like...

    Questions On Getting Into Filmmaking

Any camera is fine for starting out, even a phone or cheap point and shoot. You'll learn very quickly what is wrong with it and then you'll be able to pick out a decent camera that fits your needs better. What type of films are you planning to make? If you're making narrative films, I recommend...

    Screenplay approaches...

If I were you, I would start with a detailed outline. I don't think writing out the full story in narrative is a great idea because it will be very time consuming--unless you intend to make a standalone book adaptation.

smoke effect in this video (how to?)

When I composite smoke in, I shoot white smoke on a black background. Works better than green screening it.

trying to decide between this cheap film equipment...

One thing to consider is do you really want to rebuild all the ambient sounds as well? If it were me, I would get the shotgun and H1 because I don't have the skill to create all the sounds and dialogue later, or even deal with half being from onboard mics and half from a blue yeti later.

    Unconventional screenplay

I've done this. I had about 2 pages for a 10 minute film, and that was using really terse language with no complete sentences. A 1.5pg treatment for a 30 minute silent film is plausible, but a 1.5pg screenplay (even formatted like a treatment) sounds like a stretch to me and I would think you...
