I'm not sure how you go about your screenplays Harmonica, but have you tried just writing the whole film as if you're writing a novel? Write it all out from beginning to end. Then look at the end of the story and backtrack to the beginning and figure out if what ends up happening matches what...

You could do research on real cases to see if there's any that match what you're looking for. Reading about the subjects of forensics is one thing but if you can read about actual cases you might find more specific information.
