    archived-videos The Wellkeeper

Hi, The set, costumes, look of the actors were all very good. I like the voice of the narrator too, and the music. The beginning was a bit slow. I think the first 3 minutes could be cut to 1 minute. 3:00 is when it really starts to become engaging. There's a close up of a woman begging for...

archived-videos independent music video FEEDBACK WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Hey, Good effort. The girl's heart didn't seem to be in it sometimes when she was "singing" (lipsyncing), but it's clear you know the conventions of the genre and you're trying them out. Oh, and maybe too much of the car. As others said, they'll only get better.

    Filming from Canada's Capital

I was in England for one week last summer and liked it a lot. NewCastle and London is all I saw, and the train ride between.

    Movies about writers.

Not in the same league as Barton Fink, and maybe not even good, but ... Total Eclipse Sylvia

    New/Used SD/HD

I'm excited to report that I got the PD150. $1400 Canadian. Includes wideangle lens attachment, rain coat, bag, one good battery and one aging battery. I think it was treated quite well since it came from a pro (whose clients now want HD). I saw where he works and it looks like he takes care of...

    Belated Hello

Hello all. I sort of jumped in with a couple of posts before properly introducing myself. My username is Swink, but in the real world I'm Tom. Both work. I've focused on writing for the page mostly. Did an MA in Creative Writing, published a dozen or so short stories and a few poems in some...

Flash back in side a flash back?

Probably not, unless it's for comic effect. Flashbacks can really get out of hand. I write for the page, not the screen yet, and it's the same. And if the flashback goes on too long, the reader/audience can lose touch with with main storyline.

    NARRATOR: carrot or stick?

Generally, I'm not a fan, but it can work. The narrator has to have personality. What bothers me more is when characters talk to the camera. That really breaks the illusion for me. Larry David does it at the beginning of Woody Allen's Whatever Works. When I saw that, I just went noooo! I...

    archived-videos my RED ONE short

I thought it was self-contained (a complete story with a beginning, middle, end) and the production was good in my unprofessional opinion. The acting I found hit and miss (or maybe the fault lies with direction). Kitchen scene especially. In other places the tone was just right. Thanks for...

    New/Used SD/HD

Thanks, Don. Your high opinion of the DSR 150 is consistent with what I've been reading. The Vixia is very different:http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/canon-vixia-hf-s11/4505-6500_7-33765878.html HD, small, but allows quite a bit of control, including F-stop in aperture-priority...

    New/Used SD/HD

Hi, I've been reading this forum off and on for a while and it's been helpful and interesting. Now I'm ready to buy a camera. Which would you rather work with for an indy project, Sony PD150 or a new Vixia HF S 11? I can get them for roughly the same price. I'll be editing on Final Cut...

    Research

Thanks. I'm wondering about the early 70s, though. There was no software, no computers. Also, I was wondering. Once the original film as all spliced together the way you want, presumably that's not what you load into the projector at the student film festival. What's the next process called...

    Research

Hi, everyone. I'm not a film-maker but I'm hoping to tap into your collective wisdom. I'm a writer and I'm working on a novel set in the 70s. One of my characters is going to make a low-budget documentary. I thought I would have him do it on 8mm film, but I've learned that most 8mm film does...
