social-media Do you have a YouTube channel?

Yes. My channel is definitely a mish mash, because even though I am a filmmaker first, editing and scoring them is a part of that, and I end up in a lot of gear discussion. Occasionally, I score other people's projects. I think THIS performance video is my favorite for showing that process...

    shooting-film Any film shooters here?

I still have a Bolex and 2 Canon Scoopics. I think my Sankyo XL-620 is somewhere in the garage. I haven't used them in years, but I shot about 25 shorts with them, including ROADKILL. I made a Super 8mm feature, which was first released on VHS, in 91'. Last year, Vinegar Syndrome released a...

directing Do cast and crew have realistic or high expectations from indie filmmakers/writer & directors?

The expectations are usually based on the filmmaker's previous work. During the Lucky 777s Film Challenge (shoot a feature in 7 days, for $7,000), in Las Vegas, the producers selected seven filmmakers from a pool of 30 or 40. I was one of those who got picked. In this situation, the actors...

    Hey All.

Welcome, ElaineZ. STRANGE DARLING is a movie I think you will like. I was the only one in the theater watching that. I also thought that ODDITY was well done. SPEAK NO EVIL was good, also. I recently watched THE SUBSTANCE, which is different from those, but "off the hook" worth a watch!

movies I love The Usual Suspects

THE USUAL SUSPECTS - one of the best twist endings ever. That could make for a good topic. It would have the company of THE SIXTH SENSE, THE PRESTIDGE, PSYCHO, SAW, etc.

The Super Panavision 70 AI Craze

Last week, I watched about 10 of these. It was like being in an alternate universe. Great narrator, and interesting reimaginings.

film-school Filmmakers who went to film school: What did it change for you (Good and Bad)?

I had a style, but school definitely improved it, especially being around filmmakers with different styles. I started filming when I was 15. I would write a short story or with just a scene, so my first efforts were me operating on my dog, or simulating explosions with model rocket engines...

    the requested token post

Good job! Mission accomplished. I saw "token" and thought you were going to talk about video games. Btw, I just bought a Tascam Model 12. Not for field recording (been using Zooms for that), but I wanted USB input/output capability for my Akai Force and other music gear.

    news Nikon buys RED!

My buddy called me about this, last night. Neither of us use RED products. If the company dissolves, it could be good for other manufacturers, in regards to Cinema DNG and other codecs made available. Or, Nikon could prop them up and expand RED's reach. It was very interesting to go to NAB...

    Howdy!

You have a great background! STAR TREK: THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK is one of your favorites? Thumbs up from me. Some guy on another site was saying how he liked it the best. Some other people started posting some "laughing" emojis. I came to his defense by stating that every character had such a...

misc I thought DVDs were dead

For discs, Amazon and Ebay are your friends. While not as popular as they used to be, DVDs are still with us. Try streaming NEAR DARK, THE HITCHER, or THE FLY 2. They come up once in a while, but are hard to find, even though I have most of the streaming services. I maintain access by owning...

movies GODZILLA MINUS ONE is a small budget miracle

I just saw this, yesterday. Supposedly it was made for 15 million, which is less than 10% of the budget of Hollywood's GODZILLA VS. KONG. MINUS ONE is probably the best Godzilla movie I've seen. What else surprised me was how resonant the human story is. I was misty eyed, a few times...

I just put them as their own scenes, because they are separate times and locations when shooting.

I need help learning DaVinci Resolve to edit my latest short film

I love it. For my needs, it works better than Izotope RX, in my opinion. It's not great for every situation, but it's great for removing room echo and background.
