    Where Do Ideas Come From?

Best advice I ever read right here on this forum was pretty simple; no matter what idea for a scene or concept you have ask yourself "what happens next?" That takes you from the "hey, here's an awesome idea for a shot" all the way to a conclusion of a story. Neil

    Camera lens recommendations?

I want to toss in a suggestion for a couple of nice primes. One that I love for my 550D is the Soviet Helios 44M. It can be had on ebay for under $50 and is built like a tank. Since it's a spin-on M42 mount you just need a cheap adaptor that you can find on ebay as well. The other is the...

Shooting a scene inside of a moving car

There's always using a window mount, they can be had on Ebay for under $10. Shoot the scene from each window's POV and then drop in some shots from behind the occupants like Spatula said. Do all the audio in post. Take a couple of other outside shots from another car or even from a fixed...

    Who'll Make The Rain???

I'm going to have to go shoot some fresh footage to make these things look right, but I think you can get some pretty good results with a little experimenting. more rain stuff I know the greenscreen was too close to the car but I had cleaned most of the stuff with better lighting off the hard...

    Who'll Make The Rain???

True enough, I just grabbed something I shot that was a little dark to start with and layered over a darkening filter, then put on the rain effect I found on the FX Home site. Yes it looks like rain in the house, or a leaky roof but it was the only footage I had!! LOL At least no Pekingese...

    Who'll Make The Rain???

I tried a little scene with Effectslab but am not too thrilled with it, I think the rate of rainfall needs to be faster, I will have to work on it. I'd like to give it a lightning flash too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie"...

    Who'll Make The Rain???

I'm with you on keeping the camera dry, and performers with electric instruments and microphones usually don't mix well with water. How about getting them to soak down before they perform, spritz a little vegetable oil on their faces and hands to simulate droplets and then overlay a rain effect...

Red Scarlet should get the drool flowing

Here's something straight from the Reduser board, just someone's comment so take it for what it is worth: "When I was at NAB, I had a chance to ask Jim (Jannard) about that. He stated that the current plan is for a 1/8" plug-in interface for mics, but was clearly still considering options...

    Super 16mm Camera Purchase

You really should quit making those serials for Republic! I can't wait to read this thread next week to find out if you lived!!!

Red Scarlet should get the drool flowing

I've been looking at the Red page (and the Reduser boards) but haven't yet found an answer to that. I would imagine that given the target market built in audio would be a standard, but you never know with those guys at Red! It's going to be interesting to see what the response from the "major"...

Red Scarlet should get the drool flowing

Not exactly a secret, Red introduced the Scarlet camera at NAB, here's an interview with Ted Schilowitz at Red about the target market for a 3K camera that should sell in the $3000 range. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie"...

How do you shoot your scenes? And how do the "big" films do it?

Above this post is some terrific insight in shooting a conversation. All I can bring to the table is a suggestion to see it in action in a movie. Get a copy of "The Sunshine Boys", directed by Herbert Ross in 1975. It's almost nothing but conversation shots filmed from a variety of angles and...

    editing After Effects vs. EffectsLab

Certainly looking forward to hearing about this! As far as software and gear is concerned, being on the tiniest of shoestring budgets, I shop carefully for products and always look to see if I can find something either one tier down, or one generation back. When I do something successful with...

    editing After Effects vs. EffectsLab

I don't mind the price tag, it's one of the ways I am able to keep my feature budget under $1000, although I don't know who gave me the crazy idea I could do that! :P

    editing After Effects vs. EffectsLab

I'm with you, I wish they would add tracking to V-lab and Composite Lab. Other than that I've gotten a lot of mileage out of Effects Lab and Composite Lab. Very intuitive and quick to learn, and there's a helpful community and company support always improving the products. They make the kind of...

    Hello From Platinum Daughter Productions

Now I'm confused a bit, was the scene supposed to be taking place in 1917 as it says in the first post? When I heard "Elmer's Tune" that came out in 1939 I was thinking; "well maybe it's supposed to be WWII and not WWI" and then I saw the radio and thought it was a contemporary take on...

top-list Top Ten People... You'd like To See Meet A Nasty End

Meeting a bad end in a film is one way to look at it. I used to refer to the latest "Titanic" as the Feel Good Movie of the Year, after all, DiCaprio meets a horrid frozen death at the end. Although after he stopped being such a media sensation he's actually turned in some good performances...
