    Philosophy books?

A good way to ease into it might be to read Sophie's World. It uses a fictional narrative to cover the basic concepts of the main philosophy concepts through history. Do yourself a favor, though, and don't research it too much. Just get it and read it. There are some interesting twists in the...

What was the last film you actually paid to see in theater and enjoyed?

Just saw Battle Los Angeles yesterday. I went in expecting only an action / FX extravaganza. That's exactly what I got, and it did deliver in that regard. I enjoyed it!

    Dark Tower

At least the names Howard and Bardem carry enough weight to have the potential to do it right. Not saying they will, though. I'm a little doubtful, actually.

What was the last film you actually paid to see in theater and enjoyed?

Recently, saw Sucker Punch and thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure what all the hate is about... Also saw (somewhat recently): Black Swan - amazing I Am Number Four - pretty decent, great effects at the end and I did see Tron 2 - amazing I think I just enjoy movies too much in general to really...

Giving an end to this idea?

Okay...person wakes up after a wild party; finds a strange person in the room. S/He assumes it is another party guest, but eventually finds out it is an angel sent to break the news that s/he is dead from an alcohol/drug overdose. How would THAT conversation go?

Giving an end to this idea?

Are you planning to shoot this movie yourself, or just write the script? That may impact how your story progresses. For example, if you are shooting it yourself, who are the two best actors you know? Male? Female? Young? Old? What locations do you have access to that would make a good setting...

Giving an end to this idea?

Since this is a short film storyline, try to focus on something very specific. Make the interaction be about something very personal. The story itself sounds very reasonable, but it does call to mind several other movies that deal with the afterlife, denial of death, help from a guiding...

    What was filmed near you?

The theater scene in the original "The Blob" was filmed nearby - the small town of Phoenixville celebrates it every year. When I lived in NYC, I stumbled upon the filming of Washington Park scene in "Kids." Watched Chloe S. get out of a cab several times - no idea who she was at the time.

editing Vegas Movie studio 9 Render Widescreen Problem

Go to the Pan/Zoom window for each of the layered items that are full screen and see if there is an option to change the setting of that clip to NTSC widescreen. I'm sorry I can't be more specific but I am recalling this while at work and away from my PC with Vegas on it. I'm pretty sure if you...

what do you guys think of lost?

To answer this, I'd refer back to my previous post and say ... well, there is no real good way to answer this. It is better left unanswered. Sounds like a cop-out, I know. But that's what it is (again, to me...)

what do you guys think of lost?

The show thrived on the premise that life is full of mysteries, and answers always lead to more questions. How you deal with these questions and answers is a matter of character. That WAS the show. If the show came right out and answered everything with a tidy explanation at the end, it would...

what do you guys think of lost?

I, on the other hand, think that the ending was one of the best show endings...ever.

what do you guys think of lost?

The producers of the show repeatedly stated that this (your assessment above) was not the case.

TIPS/TRICKS Floating dust and flying mud..?

I hate to sound silly, but is "real dust" not an option? We shot a scene once with strong sunlight coming through a window. To kick up some dust, we grabbed an old paperback book and repeatedly fanned the pages. The room was full of floating dust in seconds.

editing After Effects file size limit?

Yes. one drive. NTFS. 15GB free (75 GB total). Pentium 4 - 2 CPUs ~2.4 GHz. 2GB RAM. Windows 7. Again. not my machine so there's not much I can do about the PC specs. The file sizes are as follows: (AVIs using TechSmith codec) File 1 - AVI, 7:55, 23.5 MB, 1280x1024 - not imported properly...

editing After Effects file size limit?

When I drag the clip to the stage - it shows up as :45 seconds on the timeline. Stage goes blank at :46. I would try different codecs but it is not my project to control. (This is technically for my day job...)

editing After Effects file size limit?

I'm working with After Effects, and when I import a video clip that is about (or greater than) 8 minutes, the full length of the video does not appear properly. It appears in my project asset list as a video file with a run time that is a fraction of what it is supposed to be. For example, one...
