How do you shoot in Vancouver when...?

No you're totally right, you should be shooting 4-6 pages a day at least. I was explaining how major sets don't cram multiple locations in a day. So, that said, how are you going to compromise? Less locations, different locations or more shooting time?

How do you shoot in Vancouver when...?

From what I understand Torronto is more of a production hub, but that aside, plan like you would for any other shoot or location. Plan travel time. If it takes 3 hours then plan for it. Start early at location one and end late at location two. If you can't afford the time, then do what every...

sound Recording Sound with Power Generators for Lights

You put the generator several hundred feet away and run extension cables. You can build sound baffles to and put it between your distant generator and your set for added dampening.

    Used Grip Gear

eBay has actually been pretty good to me for a lot of used lighting and grip. The problem with buying used, grip specifically, is that it lasts forever. C stands are "simple and rugged enough to last a century". It's the same technology they used in the pioneer days of he industry more or...

editing My first gunshot - mussle flash test

It's not bad. Don't forget, when you call your video "Muzzle flash test" everyone immediately draws their eye there. and is looking and wanting it to be wrong. When you put a dozen of these flashes in a 5 minute scene I think it would pass.

cinematography Can't get this aperture right.

M is a hair out of focus, even then, you should be able to pull that off EASY at 18mm with some decent light.

I want to make a symbolic movie.

Make art for yourself, make commercially viable projects for other reasons. Every now and then the two worlds collide and it's wonderful, but there's no harm in it being one or the other.

Filmmakers Why YOU should be on IndieReign

Hosting/online distribution is easy. Even vimeo lets you sell now. What indie's need are a solid stream of people wanting to buy their content. How do you plan to deliver that? EDIT: I mean how are you going to deliver viewers for the filmmakers. I understand the whole "get promoters" thing you...

    editing Audio Problems

Actually, that probably is the problem. If the camera isn't recording a hot enough signal then all that you're recording is noise. Send a good level from the mic, record as high as you can on the recorder without clipping. If you get the microphone off the camera and closer to the talent...

NEW Sigma f1.8 Zoom lens $799 for 18-35mm

On a zoom lens, if only one f stop is listed in the name it's constant aperture. Example, Canon EF 70-200 F/4 L is a constant aperture lens (at only $680 brand new), The canon 18-135mm 3.5-5.6 is not.

NEW Sigma f1.8 Zoom lens $799 for 18-35mm

Not on a constant aperture lens. Higher end lenses stay fixed throughout and don't change. I agree with you, I don't like the look of zooming during a take, but adjusting is a different story.

    Sigma 10-20mm

Go Rokinon/Samyang/Bower! Less Expensive (slightly), 14mm, faster at 2.8 and far superior image quality. There's a cine version too with geared rings for a follow focus.

    First Film/Equipment

Natural lighting works outside in the daylight, even then reflectors, bounce and scrim go a long way. Pick up a decent 3 fixture kit minimum. I'm a fan of lowel lighting for a first kit. It's cheap enough to be competitive but good enough to last your whole career. You should be able to pick...

    First Film/Equipment

Sweet man! You'll have a little easier time with a shorter XLR cable. That's a LOT of extra cable to manage if the boom op is also the PSM. The Canon Vixia has a built in zoom lens. While you can't add another lens to it, you'll e able to zoom fairly far in. Big thing missing from your...

NEW Sigma f1.8 Zoom lens $799 for 18-35mm

Yes, but you have to physically take a lens off to get different focal lengths with primes. You can't always do that. Most of the time on a narrative set primes are the way to go, they 're typically higher quality and faster. During a live event like a documentary shoot or a wedding, every...

Man Of Steel Thoughts *SPOILER ALERT*

It's great! I loved it. I think the trailers were super hopeful/bright, I didn't get dark at all. But yeah, every but as serious/real as the recent batman but on a global scale. Loved it!

NEW Sigma f1.8 Zoom lens $799 for 18-35mm

It's a HUGE deal. Zoom lenses that fast and that cheap are unheard of. 18-35 is effectively double the focal length so a significant picture difference. On the wide end, every mm counts. Think of the image difference between 200mm and 400mm, this is the same scale of difference. Now, I haven't...

Can I get dolly tracks that you can bend shapes out of?

The rubber tracks work great! Super heavy, but they do exactly what you want.

Lucas & Spielberg on the future of film

When you're spending 20-30 million for A-list talent, you're essentially spending 20-30 million on marketing. The reason some actors can pull that much is because they put people in seats. There are e plenty of movies I've seen because of who was in them.
