Ant ideas on how to do an overhead shot?

I'm a pretty tall guy and I've shot a lot of live performances. I've done the camera and the end of the monopod plenty. Usually with a 14mm lens, the wider the better. Usually looks pretty good! Every now and then a little post stabilization helps but with that wide of a lens you usually don't...

    editing Rendering Ratios

4:3 raio TV in HD would be 1440x1080. I haven't seen an HD television in 4:3 raio since they first came out though. Most 4:3 televisions are SD, or 640x480.

Finding a completely crew for a big project next year

"How Much" is super relative. Cast & crew in my market will cost different than yours. Different films will need different people. Could cost $1,000, could cost $50,000. Your first hire should be an experienced producer. They'll help answer these questions, set a plan, bring on a director...

Finding a completely crew for a big project next year

Passion and talent aren't the same. You can have both, but talent afford many opportunities, why pick the one that doesn't pay? Have you ever spent 2 weeks or 2 months on another person's project for free? Was he an internet stranger with no track record of film success? Not trying to be a...

Should I go ahead with a movie shoot with no PSM?

Rent a couple of wireless lapels, hide them under your clothes. Only two people means only two mics, then have your camera op listen on headphones for clipping/interference while you shoot. I have to run audio and camera all the time for most of the shoots I do (granted, they aren't narrative)...

Finding a completely crew for a big project next year

First, figure out what you're doing. Feature OR web series, and the actual budget. THEN hire department heads and they'll take care of staffing their departments. Most already know others they've worked with before. Fair question though, what are you spending $80-150k on if not personel? The...

    editing Feature Post

Thanks man! It's unconventional for sure, but it's also the only way we can make the deadline. They start shooting the sequel in March and need this tagged and bagged. The sound engineer and I have worked A LOT together though, close to a decade, and though we're doing our best to edit lock as...

    editing Feature Post

Thanks guys! Sweetie, I'm both editor and post supervisor, managing the audio mix and score composition, so your advice still works haha. The longest narrative I've edited was pushing 45 minutes, we're aiming at 80-90 for this one. Ray - We're kind of working this a little different. To...

    editing Feature Post

Thanks! I know they have stuff in the works, but it's not my department on this one. My job is to hand a 100% finished movie off to the producers for them to hand to distribution. After that, it's out of my hands. None the less, pretty excited!

    editing Feature Post

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been active, it's been genuinely busy, but I see myself here quite a bit for the next few months. I just today started post production on a feature! I'm working with a production company in LA, they shot it May-October and they're handing ALL of post off to me...

Black Magic Pocket Camera Review: vs Canon 5D3 and Red Epic

Careful on the cards Wheat! I've had mine a few days, it drops frames after a few seconds using the PNY on the official Blackmagic approved card list. Been in their forums, apparently some others have had the same problem. The Sandisks are supposed to do ok. I have some new cards coming in, I'll...

Canon EOS 7D and FCP7 No idea!!!

Import through the program image capture off the camera to a HDD, then import into FCP7. If you want a better editing experience, use compressor (or whatever software you want, if you have FCP7 then you have compressor) to batch convert all the files to ProRes or a playable format and import...

Sweet! Check out Warm Bodies if you haven't already. It's a pretty fun take on the life of a zombie.

tv-writing TV series based on religion?

Why not man. Several sitcoms have included God or the devil as characters, though not necessarily steady characters. Lots of cartoons have depicted the Christian God as well as satan and other gods from other religions; family guy, South Park, futurama, the Simpsons and I'm sure many many more...

How's the Canon T4i for low light?

The t4i, t3i and t2i all share the same sensor. In all practicality unless you're swiveling the screen to light your talent with it you'll get the exact same results that you get with your t2i.

How do you shoot in Vancouver when...?

Bro, you're at the same spot you were when you started. Biting off way too much. There are plenty of things you have access to. A park, your living room, your car and if you're nice enough you'll have your friend's and family's stuff too. Do you work at a restaurant? Ask your boss to shoot...
