How long should I commit to someone's feature film before moving on?

Yeah man, you can't put your life on hold like that. I mean, they spent a year already and haven't been able to finish? What are the paying you, if anything? If they can't set deadlines that's a leadership problem. The above advice is great. Let them know you're moving by whatever date (your...

$3000 to spend on Canon Lenses

You might be able to sell the voucher alone for 60-80%. Shoot, I'd be interested in that if I didn't have to pay for shipping from NZ.

$3000 to spend on Canon Lenses

You can adapt easily, but seeing as they're all built for Canon bodies you won't be able to control the aperture, use autofocus or image stabilization (for lenses that have it). They rely on a signal and power from the body for these things and you won't get that with an adapter.

$3000 to spend on Canon Lenses

You won't have a great time with modern Canon glass on your Panasonic. Have you thought about using it towards a second camera? You can snag a body and a lens or two or three. Alternatively, you can sell them yes. As far as what sells well I'd check completing ebay listings in your market.

    Blackmagic Pocket Hands-on

Sorry, it was a typo, I meant the 64gb card for $120. Good points for sure Jax. Most of my comparisons on what you need to function were aimed at cameras closer to the price range but I hear you. Still, after using both, I'll take RAW our of the Magic Lantern 5D over RAW out of the BMPCC...

    Day for night

Lot's of movies do it, but they do it with an experienced visual effects supervisor in the mix. If you hire experienced pros they should be able to pull it off and save you money vs actually shooting at night. Though done right, shooting at night is almost always better.

    Blackmagic Pocket Hands-on

I've had it for a while now, I'm not a huge fan of the camera. First, it's not really fair to call it a $1000 camera, because you can't really use it out of the box with anything other than a pancake lens. With most cameras, a rail/support system isn't a true necessity. They're nice, don't get...

    2K vs 4K

There are a handful of 4k monitors and TV's out there, but just like when HD, DVD, VHS and color TV were launched it's a slow adoption process. As technology gets better, prices cheaper and internet faster it'll be common place. Rumor is the next batch of Apple displays will be 4k.

    Blackmagic Pocket Hands-on

I have the BMPC , and the Rokinon 14 and 8mm both are pretty wide on it. You see some distortion on the 8, but not near as much as it has on a Canon APS-C.

    2K vs 4K

There isn't a blanket answer. Sometimes it will matter, sometimes it won't. Since you can't share info with us dues to NDA (and we're not mad about that) none of us can say yes or no. Again, this is why you ask your DP who will have full knowledge of the shoot.

    Canon 6D good for video?

This is the main reason to go with a 6D/5D versus a canon or any other brand crop sensor camera. Until you've shot with a full frame sensor you don't know what you're missing. The difference is pretty huge, and totally worth it.

    2K vs 4K

I agree totally. TWB, there is a difference between 1080p and 2k though, namely that almost every camera out there can make 1080p now-days but only a handful of higher end pro cameras can do 2k. Mastering in 2K means that you shot on something that can make 2k. Plus compression issues on...

    2K vs 4K

    No, 4k isn't a "must" for a theater run.

    Canon 6D good for video?

6D is great for video. Of course, the 5D is better all around but if that's your bidget then that's your budget. You get an option for a better codec than what you have on the 60D and a full frame sensor, choosing between IPB & All-I. You'll get better Magic Lantern support on the 5Diii, but...

    Noah 2014

I think it's more about the actor's fame than his race. If you're going for a gladiato-esque blockbuster epic, then Russel Crowe is a pretty smart choice. Not that actors of other ethnicities couldn't pull off the same role and maybe do a better job, it's just who's face on the poster is going...

sound using copyrighted music for trailer

For sure, but you have the chicken and egg scenario for something like a trailer. Would the video have gone viral without a recognizable pop sing behind it? With something like a trailer where the point is to get the word out to as many people as possible about a product for sale, all the help...

sound using copyrighted music for trailer

ACTUALLY... YouTube is the one place it's pretty easy to use pop music. They listen for music and have deals with a lot of labels allowing you to use music in your video in exchange for advertising. It'll put an ad at the bottom of your video and an iTunes link below it to whatever music you...

    Help me with picking lens

I was basing off of US market used prices, sorry. That 18-135 goes for $300 or so USD here. The extra range vs an 18-55 is pretty crucial for sports though because you can't be close to the action. Personally, I've had bad experiences with Tamrons and Sigmas. If you're looking for something...

    Help me with picking lens

Sports typically require a long zoom lens. Narratives do great with wider ranges and you have lots of time, so primes give you better quality usually for less money. Kit lenses, while versatile and cheap, are usually slow and the image quality isn't great. Finally, you're on a crop sensor...
