editing Syncing audio -- discuss your method.

Plural Eyes for the win. Shot a pilot on a 5D and 7D with a Zoom audio recorder and worked flawlessly. I was a little confused in the workflow department and how to speed up productivity. Basically, Drop each scene into it's own timeline with all of its takes in sequential order, add the...

    Adobe On Location

I've thought about it for VTR or a Video Assist setup, but haven't found any use for it. Instead, I ended up just using a deck with FCP to import a video feed from the cam. If anyone has any other usage experience, PLEASE POST!

    Full Sail University

In acknowledgment to this thread, you can't blame a school for a poorly educated student. You must blame the student. I work with other grads all the time in LA. They're hit or miss, but this is judging by their work ethic and attitude. Immediately after graduation, I've been able to walk...

    Full Sail University

I actually chose the film route on a hunch that I'd enjoy it. I've had no previous teachings, or thoughts other than an interest in editing. Never had a dream of being a Speilberg. I was interested in Full Sail's game development program, but was swayed once I took the film tour. It was a...

    Full Sail University

I'm a Full Sail film grad. I would say my course at the school was more of an "experience", than a schooling. I've had hands-on experience with almost every single piece of gear that I've worked with on legit film and video sets, and have acquired the lingo as well from the teachers at...

Experienced Directors. Your first films. They sucked, right?

I directed my first film while still in film school. In our final project class, they chose three scripts from a class of over 100 students. Unfortunately, mine wasn't chosen and I decided to film it anyway. The hype I stirred with my classmates got nearly 30 of them dying to help out, and I...

    casting directors

I've found a casting director to be quite useful. I just wrapped my casting with a casting director and she asked very good questions and supplied great direction to get the most out of the session. I will definitely be using her from now on.

    DIT - Digital Image Technician

Hah, sounds like a great gig. Thanks for the info, I'll continue to research a bit more. I'm gripping on a Nike spec shoot tomorrow and the line producer told me there's a DIT on set. I'll get the low down on it all. Thanks for your help! :)

    DIT - Digital Image Technician

I was wondering little more about the role of a DIT on set. I've seen this job a lot on RED camera sets, has anyone worked in this field before? I know they transfer data, but what programs and plug-ins are necessary? From what I hear, it sounds like an editor meets a film loader. I'd love...

    archived-videos Jacked - a neo/noir comedy

We lav'd all of the actors and had a boom through the sun roof. Unfortunately, there was a fan in the parking garage that we or the maintenance guy couldn't turn off. We had to scrap everything from the boom mic. In mixing, we could still hear the fan and had to get rid of it, especially when...

Definitely. The "I teach a class on this", and Chris Walken bit was all improvised. The guys were pretty hilarious off set as well. :)

Also, I was very fortunate to have someone run BTS through the shoot. I just had to upload it! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN3GSf3o30g

Thanks for all the great feedback everyone! Thank you for taking the time to watch my film. :) I definitely would have too. This was something I had to do differently that was breaking the rules, but I shot all the masters last. We ran two cameras to get the OTS's, as I didn't want to lose...

Thanks so much, Steve! You're absolutely right, it's a challenge to completely preserve the script when transcribed to the screen. I think I may chop it down a bit. Thanks for taking the time to watch man, I truly appreciate your feedback Hi Ang, Yeah, that was my first time shooting...

If submitting to festival, required to attend?

I live in California and submitted a film to a central Florida film festival. It premiered and placed 3rd, but I'm wondering if it could have placed higher if I was there for the Q&A. Regardless, I consider it a win for even premiering.

    Making rain for a scene?

Bump for wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for practical rain on set. I spoke to a solid AE editor and he doesn't recommend fully constructing rain in animated form. Please share your thoughts if you happen to have any experience :)

    archived-videos Jacked - a neo/noir comedy

Three burglars try to steal a car... at the same time. This film cost less than $500 to produce, and was shot in 7.5 hours. Shot on two HVX-200's. Would love to hear your thoughts. :) http://www.vimeo.com/10712234
