    Most filmmakers hate their lives.

There's this strange phenomena I've seen. It seems so counter-intuitive. Like, we all get into this business because we love making movies. And yet, the overwhelming majority of filmmakers I've ever met and worked with in real life -- they fucking hate what they're doing! Can we please stop...

    The Disaster Artist

I appreciate where you're coming from, Buscando, but you were not able to sum up my words on this matter. No, I'm saying that some people's opinions are not worth listening to. They do not matter. My butthole is stinkier than other people's buttholes, sorry, it's true. I'm not here to impress...

    The Disaster Artist

Lol, yep, I LOVE James Cameron's "Avatar". I think it's kinda the best move ever. I'm also really really sleepy and maybe I've had too many beers tonight so I'll reserve my comments to just confirming what we already know. I love "Avatar"! :D Best wishes to all.

    The Disaster Artist

I don't know if I'm being paranoid, but I think it's possible that someone might think I'm actually being judgmental of homeless people. That's not an accusation but an honest statement that I'm worried someone might misunderstand where I'm coming from. For the record, I'm an active advocate for...

What's the difference between framing and composition?

It's like the difference between a square and a rectangle. Every square is a rectangle, but a rectangle isn't necessarily a square. Framing is part of shot composition. But there's more to shot composition than just framing.

    The Disaster Artist

Lol, I just watched the clip of Franco blocking Wiseau from the mic. I'm of the opinion that it was probably a smart move. Also, I just thought of one more point regarding opinions. Somewhere in this world, there is at least one person who doesn't like puppy-dogs, chocolate, or pizza. Should I...

    The Disaster Artist

Okay, I'll play along. Let's say you just met a friend at 7-11. As you're leaving the store, you're accosted by a homeless person begging for change. Mind you, I'm not judging this hypothetical homeless person, they've probably seen some really harsh things in their life. Regardless...

    archived-videos First music video

Dammit, why do I have to be the bad guy? This video is beautifully shot and skillfully edited. There's just not enough going on. How many times is the audience expected to maintain interest while watching repeated shots of the singer singing, or the guitar player playing, etc.? Music videos...

archived-videos Showreel: What do you think?

Nice work G-Bike! Lots of good stuff in there. If I were to offer one constructive critique, I'd say it might benefit from having a more whippy-snappy pace. Then again, that's my critique of pretty much everything, lol. Every single actor who's ever worked with me has heard me say, "I like it...

    The Disaster Artist

Also, a perfect movie to watch with "The Disaster Artist" -- "American Movie". It's an inspiration, and hilarious.

    The Disaster Artist

I LOVE LOVE LOVE "The Disaster Artist" (the movie; haven't read the book). Maybe I'll watch it again today. :D Thank you for sharing these thoughts, buscando; I agree with most of what you've said. I understand that a lot of people have fun making fun of how horrible "The Room" is, and yes...

    Best way to practice screenwriting?

That's why we have rough drafts. Your first rough draft isn't the one you have to shop to the world. Get critiques. Rewrite. Again, and again, and again. Give people The Elevator Pitch as often as possible. Find friends whom you can tell all of your stupid ideas and know that they'll give you...

    The Disaster Artist

I feel like this thread is bordering on becoming nothing more than people throwing stones from glass houses. Reminder: filmmaking isn't just an art, it's a business. Sometimes those two things go hand-in-hand. Sometimes they don't. How many producers on this forum have turned a profit? Not many.

    Do i use mp4 or mpeg2 for editing ?

If your computer can handle it, I would edit in whatever format it was shot in. But that's usually not possible, so editing by proxy is a common thing. I don't remember the name of it, but can anyone else remember that free codec Blackmagic released a few years back? Does it still exist?

Thanks, WalterB! You continue to be ever helpful. C-Wood, I'm glad you got it, and if you could please edit your response to my response so that my contact info is no longer in there, I probably shouldn't have posted it online so quickly. :)

story Introducing a Sub Plot, or B story

No, I don't mind at all. I also would be happy to send you, if you're interested, a kinda-sorta-secret online link to the full movie. Officially, it's not available to the public. But unofficially, yeah, there's totally a private vimeo link that I'm happy to share, especially with fellow...

    The Disaster Artist

I loved "The Disaster Artist" (the film; haven't read the book). I've seen it three times now, and plan on going again. I respectfully disagree that one needs to have seen "The Room" in order to appreciate it, but that certainly probably helps.

story Introducing a Sub Plot, or B story

Generally speaking, yes, EVERYTHING should move the central story forward. Then again, you've got people like Tarantino who somehow get away with a fifteen-minute scene in which the first members of the KKK complain about not being able to see through the holes in their poorly-constructed masks...
