movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

My girlfriend and I are halfway through 'The Illusionist' and loving it. And before that, 'The Host'. Loved it. The cinematography, the special effects, the acting, everything. (We watched in Korean with subtitles, don't care for English dubbing.) Also had a good laugh at the portrayal of...

I wonder what the meals are like.

    Why aren't new movies better?

I think the biggest problem is that because so much attention is paid to visuals, filmmakers are getting too vivid an image in their mind of what they want the end result to be when they're only just beginning to start the project. An artist should start with a blank canvas and work from there...

175 Photos of Day taken at Night

How unfortunate. If long exposure is used well it can create an amazing and beautiful effect, but these photographers just seem to have used it as a gimmick.

Ideas for a locked-room mystery genre..

Modernise it a bit maybe.. there are plenty of scientifically conceptual solutions for a locked room scenario which could make it a lot more interesting than seeing conventional explanations re-written in a million murder mysteries.

editing Which program for sound mixing? 32 bit PC. Unsure of my options.

I'd stick with Vegas if I were you, you've got everything you need as long as you're sticking with audio files. I'd very much recommend Izotope Ozone as a mastering plug-in, you'll realise how much of a difference it makes to the stereo and sound quality.

    R.I.P. Composer John Barry

RIP And my tribute shall be accompanying every suspicious-looking event over the course of today with a D/G chord and a farty trumpet rip.

    archived-videos what is truth?

I liked it a lot, made me think. It reminded me of a couple of short films I studied in Fine Art a couple of years ago but the names escape me. You got a pretty dangerous brief, it must be way too easy to run off with it and do something naive and quasi-intellectual, but you've managed to avoid...

sound Is it legal to cover or parody a song?

I'm pretty sure that here, a cover is fine as long as you always cite the real author, and don't use it for commercial purposes. However, I'm not sure how it works on your side of the Atlantic.

    plot video competition plot

I read it, I like the settings. Seems like a story of someone just going completely fucking insane, which can be very exciting if you can get an actor who can pull this off. And I do like the idea of ending by showing how close he was to getting back to civilisation.

    Concentrating On One Screenplay.

Write notes on everything, whilst still keeping a clear plan of the basic concept for this one project. Then you can start working the other ideas into the main story as subplots and character development, therefore leaving you with a much more complex story?

You mentioned Tim Burton, you should probably check this out: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Danny-Elfmans-Batman-Score-Guide/dp/0810851261/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1283167483&sr=8-2 It was a pretty amazing soundtrack, it's just unfortunate Burton made a shit job of the actual film.

    What do you guys think?

I think it would be a good idea to leave the ending open, without giving any hint as to whether he actually decided to pull the trigger or not, just the events that led him to that point of desperation. You'll find with depression that it's very easy to get yourself to a state where you're...
