Young Editor Will Work for Free

It's coming along ok. I've got a composer now, but the locked picture is a ways away because I'm still trying to get more voiceover work from the main actor who is now in D.C. And I'm also rethinking some things in the film. I know it will never be perfect, but I'm still planning on taking it...

Young Editor Will Work for Free

Hey everyone, I'm just looking to take on more projects and keep myself busy with making videos. Although I'm still in high school, I want to see what I can do with other people's projects, in terms of editing. Obviously I'm not credible enough to ask for money and this is more of a personal...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

True, I do like how realistic Primer makes time travel look. It would be interesting to see if Shane Carruth had intentionally made it too complex for most viewers just to get that realistic feeling, I mean come on....Time travel can get pretty crazy. And it also lends itself to the feeling that...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Timecrimes - 7.3/10 I felt like they could have pushed it even further with the timetravel stuff, but it was still good. Primer - 7/10 Watched it for the fourth time, still don't think I got absolutely everything at the end. Great concept but one of the downfalls is the complexity, because...

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

Haha, naw probably not. If I wanted to avoid all the rigamarole of the vfx shot, I would probably just apply some slight glitches to the whole overall shot (not just the background) and then fade to white, when it fades back the subject is in a different room but in the same position.

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

Thanks for all the replies. And yeah, video copilot is pretty great. I really like the disintegration effect. Anyway, I have a lot of time to think about how to do it before the time actually comes, and by then there might be a better way to do it. Now I just need to finish the script.....

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

I'm not sure what level you are talking about in terms of learning the tools. As far as the basics go, I'm learning After Effects now in a Compositing class at a Technical College, and I watch a lot of tutorials on random effects but I don't have the money to get the programs myself. So, I'm...

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

Haha, sorry. Yeah, I would have tried harder to find an example but I was just getting out of class and waiting for the bus, so I didn't have much time. That said.......I basically had to just go into gameplay videos to find what I was talking about and even then it's not a good example of what...

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

Rok, I don't know of a clip that demonstrates this effect, but there may be one... The only thing that comes close are the sequences in the Assassin's Creed games where the virtual cities are 'reconstructed' digitally. (If you don't know what this looks like you may have to do some digging...

editing Special Effect - Room 'Deconstruction'

So, in one idea that I have for a short film, the room around the main character needs to transform into another room. I picture the walls turning kind of digital like they are being scanned and then the room begins reconstructing itself. Maybe a bit like in the Assassin's Creed series. Anyway...

    character Character Development

One trick for practicing character development I remember from one of my teachers. When you are in a public place or on bus or something and you have a pen and paper to write. Look at the people around you and describe them. Describe their physical appearance first and then you can analyze them...

archived-videos My Short Needs Your Vote!! - True Love Video Contest

Just an update, my video has now basically caught up to one of the finalists that was put up 10 days before mine (mine has 123 likes, the other has 127) So it looks like I'm doing pretty well. I'm actually surprised by the responses I've been getting. Personally, I don't like my video and can...

archived-videos My Short Needs Your Vote!! - True Love Video Contest

Hey guys! So I edited a 7 minute version of my original short film, 'Home' and entered it into a video contest. The video can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP2kerhJugE I was selected as one of 5 finalists and right now the finalists are on the contest's facebook page for public...

    New Director around!

If you're having trouble with ideas for stuff, I can help out...I always have a ton of ideas floating around in my head, the trouble is to find creative ideas that are also realistically possible to shoot with the resources you have. I'm a big procrastinator when it comes to writing scripts, but...

Why do some people only make shorts and no feature?

If your short film could also be adapted into a feature film some companies may seek you out. I believe that District 9 was originally a short film by Neill Blomkamp and the studio hired him on as the director to turn it into a feature. I think shorts are inherently done for practice. Like Jax...

    Guilt-A 2 min short idea

I think this would be a better idea for a longer short film. For 2 minutes I think your idea is fine, but make sure not to rush the preproduction phase. Write the script, get some feedback, rewrite it. Repeat as many times as you like. It may seem like overkill for a 2-minute short film. But I'm...

    Honest opinion of my trailer

Yeah, I was pretty happy with the campfire shot. But I think this whole short film will be one of those films that takes forever to finish, and is only decent in the end. But I'm determined to make it as decent as possible, hahaha. Thanks for the comments!

    > Lo/No Budget Review

Haha, yeah you aren't missing much. The whole story probably should have been only 4 minutes, it's very repetitive.... I was thinking about responding to each of your critiques, but I'm too lazy, haha. But you are basically spot-on. My main problem is that I'm trying to move too fast... I...
