    Field Monitor Question... need help

I even found a link for the manual, but my DNS wasn't resolving the host of the company, which is why I went to the selling sites instead. I use and recommend DSLR controller for a monitor (but I use it wired). Since I had a new nexus 7 tablet (ver 1), research showed buying the beta...

    Panasonic GH4 Available for Pre-Order

I figured it was due to write speeds or something, but I wondered why they couldn't do 1080 4:2:2, too. My guess is 4k external recorders will not be cheap, at least not at first. I remember reading about one that interfaces to a sony f5 that uses fiber connections. I don't know how much it...

    Need ideas for more lenses!

The newer sigma lenses are extremely good. They've put out only great lenses the past couple years. The older ones had a lot of crap with a few gems. The 18-35 is on my wish list, although I really wish it worked on full frame since that's what I generally use.

    Field Monitor Question... need help

I checked the specs stated on sites that are selling it before posting. They list 2 video out and 0 video in, and it lines up with that DVD player.

    Field Monitor Question... need help

That video jack is output. This cannot be used as a monitor, but it could be plugged into an external monitor or video that supports s-video or NTSC out.

Try rendering just that section with noise and see if it's in the final. Post it so we can hear what you're talking about.

    Need ideas for more lenses!

Getting a closeup with a wide really distorts faces. I've done that when intentionally distorting things, but your talent will have to be briefed as you'll be only 1-2 feet away and right in their faces. A 50mm is enough to do a good closeup without much facial distortion. I use a 77mm...

What lens is appropriate for this shot?

I was thinking around 80-100mm, but the aperture isn't as wide as one might think. Looks to me around 4-5.6 on 100mm, shot from just behind the other actor.

Great point, mad hatter. I think h44 may be the most brilliant, polite troll ever.

    editing Shots out of focus.

Those are all static shots. Just go back and take stills and dub in the sound. Or pull stills from the footage, use photoshop and something like focus magic or smart sharpen, then put it back together. Looking at it in sony vegas, I had better results using sharpen. Both sharpen and unsharp...

What are the issues with using real weapons on set?

Looks like APE was distinguishing between the two uses, and noting he considered knives dangerous when used as weapons, but not so much when used as a non-weapon. sfoster assumed all discussion was about using one as a weapon, re: subject line. There's little cultural difference regarding the...

What are the issues with using real weapons on set?

So, Jax_rox actually answered this, but the majority of the folks bickering have not. Maybe I should've phrased it with all sorts of knee-jerk dogma :) Film injury stats make a difference. State/country stats do not. Especially when you start pulling out mass shootings, please name a single...

What are the issues with using real weapons on set?

He was responding to my response. I removed it after rereading it an hour later, but he saw it before the edit. And yeah, I pressed him a little bit, but didn't see the point, so I tried to prevent the inevitable bickering that would happen by editing my post. It looks like we've gotten that...

What are the issues with using real weapons on set?

So speaking of the stabbing/plastic knife thing... Do people feel basically the same way about real knives? While searching for props, I found there are a lot more fake guns than fake knives, at least any that could convince an audience. I deduce that people don't generally have the same...

plot Is this a plot hole?

They couldn't record it until after they have the hostage. There's a time issue with recording it, then shipping the tape off somewhere to broadcast it. I think the plot hole would be how they have access to broadcasting equipment that the person paying the ransom would see.

What are the issues with using real weapons on set?

I'm curious, did you have a piece of plexi in front of you or at least goggles to protect against stray fragments?
