I enjoyed what you wrote, but didn't fully understand what you meant here. Can you explain this for me. Thanks.

Couldn't agree more with you. I'm just defining what the redistribution of wealth is. By saying its more of a democratic socialist thing, I'm also trying to say, don't be scared of the words I use. We have socialism everywhere in our society. Let's embrace it and understand it - in the context...

Yes, it's very helpful to have a reel that shows the film, it's genre, storyline and helps sell it to a distributor. I know because I'm a distributor. Also be prepared for a distributor to ask you to re-title and recut your film. If you want your film to be successful, then trust the...

Perfect summation. I agree with what you said. Let's move on and fix this problem

I do agree with most of what you said, but I was just pointing out that the stimulus package was a democratic socialist thing to do (remember democratic socialist governments are pro capitalism. I lived with several of those (Labor) governments in the UK, and we never once became communist. And...

I constantly hear about conflicting information, which is true to a point. But if you get your information from reliable sources and it makes scientific sense (that bit is important), you'll know it's fine. Problem is a lot of people get their 'news' or information from some crazy places these...

Agree - you shouldn't tell the entire movie in the trailer. Sometimes a scene may work, or just stick with a good trailer concept and work from there. But you do need a concept/script for your trailer.

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

What's amazing about the film to me (and I got goose pimples the first time I watched it) isn't so much the narrative (I feel in that case it misses the plot - but more on that later) it's the fact that the film is the accumulation of every technical and artistic breakthrough, up to that time...

From a distribution POV I'm just being very critical of the trailer to help them get the most out of it. It should immediately tell us the genre, which this doesn't. Looks like a thriller with comedy and maybe horror elements, maybe, but definitely not a horror. You'd have to recut this with...

Thought as much. It plays like a thriller at the start, them the montage is unfocused. Needs to be really focused on how you want to sell it. If this is a dark comedy, show it. I'm sure you've got some great scenes. Love to see what the other 2 trailers are like when they're ready. Check out...

pre-production I am working on a 3d animated shortfilm and need feedback on the Animatic.

It's an animatic. It's the digital 3D animation equivalent of a traditional animation line test. Meaning it's just a rough. So there's deliberately no color and it's all just very low rez renders. Only the timings, shots and basic structure should be critiqued for animatics.

Hi The production value is pretty good, but the trailer doesn't do you any favors. I don't understand what the genre is nor the story or anything about any of the characters. These are all essential in a trailer. Comedies are a very hard sell outside of the US, so a really good trailer is...

Hi. I just watched the animatic. It's a fun film with a cute idea. I enjoyed it a lot. Plus, importantly (and I should know, as I run an animation festival and get hundreds of entries) it never overstays its welcome. By that I mean it's a very good length. Having said that I feel the story...

film-school Do I need film school?

There are still busy professionals (most of my friends are luckily busy, and I'm still keeping my head just above water for the moment) - mostly those doing motion graphics work on promos, plus there's more work obviously for those handling stock footage research/clearance. As a lot of new...

film-school Do I need film school?

The big benefit of college is connections. As I've said before, all my work connections came from those I initially had at college. After college they were all through work connections. I've hardly ever gotten a gig through a resume/CV or even (believe it or not) a showreel. Ask anyone who's a...

Better than GWTW in my opinion is HOW GREEN WAS MY VALLEY (1941). I just love the set they built in Hollywood to recreate a Welsh mining village. Stars the great Roddy McDowell.

You should definitely watch MISSING - one of JACK LEMMON's greatest performances. And a wonderful Vangelis soundtrack.

Still have yet to see this Costa Gavras classic. I've of course only heard great things about it. I'll try to watch it tomorrow. The only film of his that I've seen is one of my all-time favorites, MISSING. I'd like to see SLEEPING CAR MURDERS too. Have you seen that?
