    Became a pro film maker

Thanks! And you're definitely one of those who encouraged me! Really appreciate it (unless I starve to death...) But do have a look at the vid on www.HotSquash.com It's a little clunky at the end but the concept is OK.

    Became a pro film maker

So.... I took the plunge and became a professional film maker. This is now how I earn my living, pay the bills and if I starve to death, it'll be my fault for doing something so completely insane. My first corporate vid (branded content) is now on a website: www.HotSquash.com - This is womens...

Looking for filmmakers for original song videos

I'm only speaking for myself and not for others but looking at your post, this is what I was thinking: 1. Provide raw footage so you can edit it together? As a creative, I hate that idea. If I'm doing something for 'free,' I want creative control to make something I want to make. Otherwise...

editing Questions to ask Post-Sound Mixer

For post, I'm looking at outsourcing to China. There is some incredible talent out there and as long as they are guided to do things in a 'Western' way, I think it'll be OK and prices are incredible. Of course, I'm Chinese so we can talk to each other. Might be harder if you don't actually...

What is success in 12 months?

Hiya y'all Just curious... What is success for you in 12 months? For me, this would be: - Completed a feature film - Short entered successfully in a few competitions - Full time film maker (which I will be) - Generating money from a few, different sources - Having a corporate business...

    cinematography 180 Rule

I think film making is about knowing when to break the rules. In fact, I love it because every so often, a film maker comes along and tears up the rulebook and we have a truly amazing piece of film making. So break away if you can make it work.

The Price Of A "Director's Pass"

I'd expect any director to want to do this. If they didn't want to make it their own, I'd be surprised and especially if they know their name will be attached from a funding perspective.

archived-videos What makes this 93 sec film seem amateurish?

That was kinda funny. It appealed to my warped sense of humour. As you ask, the framing, colouring are off so worth having a look at those elements. The sound sync is clearly out as well and from that perspective, definitely need a little foley. The acting could've been sharper in places...

    Low frequency sound blankets

What are the best sound blankets for low frequency noises? Traffic etc...? I know that nothing would be as good as a soundproofed room but if I need to do something on the fly near a busy road, I want to make as much of a dent in that low frequency noise as possible (in addition to all the...

[Apr 24] What are you working on this week?

I fancied shooting a fantastic short so wrote something crazy, shot this craziness with FilmAutre and now have to edit this insanity... We were really 'going for it' so am faced with a Herculean, labyrinthine level of complexity. I'm quite enjoying it.

    Run-and-gun Audio Solutions

The optimum shotgun mic position is above the talent, 30 cms in front, aiming at the base of the throat but the issue is getting the mic there. With a wide angle lens in a run-and-gun situation, you can slam the mic right in there. Cameras with significant crop factors cause issues so a 2.2...

    Run-and-gun Audio Solutions

As a budget option, the 10SG sounds pretty decent. Sure, it's nothing close to my sound setup but for run 'n' gun on a budget, it's OK. It has a little mini-boom so you can get it closer to the talent and away from the camera (with all the little noises around there) and the closer you can get...

    Sennheiser lavs

Guess I'll have to go elsewhere to look at the answer. No point in attempting to upgrade a mic when it's the data transmission package which is the issue.

    Sennheiser lavs

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1115091-REG/rode_rodlnk_fm_rodelink_wireless_filmmaker_kit.html Rode wireless setup. I'm checking out 'cheap' and gradually upgrading. This is why the Rode setup is interesting because I could upgrade the mics almost immediately, then upgrade the...
