    a rookie question about cameras

Is it possible to order from Amazon, Bhphotovideo or EBay to your country? That will open up more options for you. In any case, try to spend more on lenses than the camera body. A lot of people tend to get the latest camera body out there and then skimp on glass. Get an older, cheaper body...

    Split screen tips?

I am wary of blanket statements as well; I do not believe mine was one. Most split screens are not filmed at the same time and some of the shots in 24 are the exception to the rule. Actually, I encouraged the OP to break the rule and get creative in filming a split screen scene simultaneously :)

    Split screen tips?

Unless you're doing something creative (highly encouraged and you've given me some ideas here), most split screen shots are not filmed at the same time. Shoot them separately and do the split screen effect in post. Just be sure to match any timing and know how you're going to crop so you can...

lighting Clouds moving causes blown out highlights

You mean you don't just use the 'Magic Hour' preset in your software for every shot? Just kidding. I've done a few those and what I do this setup each shot beforehand as much as I can with the equipment we have. Then run through a couple of rehearsals to figure out any potential...

lighting Clouds moving causes blown out highlights

As mentioned, 1. Wait and shoot through consistent lighting moments. 2. Switch to a spot in the shade. 3.

    Ex machina

Hard to find people who have heard of Garland. Same as yourself, I've admired his work since I read The Beach in 99 or 00... can't remember. However, I liked the film as well. I know it is different and there are major changes in some of the characters' relationships but Boyle definitely...

    Canon 70D a good choice?

I should have been more careful before replying. Didn't realize it had a 4/3 sensor. You are absolutely correct and thanks for clarifying. @OP: Please disregard my previous comment. My reply was for an FF and/or a 1.6 crop sensor.

    Canon 70D a good choice?

Congrats! One of the best ways to practice is to put a short together from beginning to end. 12-35mm is quite limited and I would suggest saving up and filling in the gaps by getting a 50 and an 85 at the very least. Enjoy shooting! EDIT: My response did not take into account the size of the...

    Stop Motion Question

Generally, one changes something in every single shot. However, there is so much to this art that you really want to go through sites devoted in detail to stop motion. Oh and if you are doing the arm movement, specifically, follow the ease-in ease-out (just google it) method. Otherwise the...

is it true theres no copyright license need for music over 75 yrs old?

I'm far from an expert here so please verify elsewhere but I think what they're saying is that the composition itself may not be under copyright after 70 years, although it can be in some specific circumstances. If it is not, you could play the piece yourself or hire someone to play and record...
