film-school To film school or not to film school, that is the question.

If you paint, it's because you enjoy it, and it is something personal to you . Unless you're a GREAT painter, NOBODY WILL BUY IT. If you write a book, it is also something personal to you. Some people will read it. Most will not. FEW WILL BUY IT. If you make a film, it's like writing a book or...

    favorite Favorite Universal Monster Movie?

When I was a kid I used to buy the FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND magazines, which was a great introduction to Universal's horror films, and a behind-the-scenes look at how they were made. I think that over the years I have seen most, if not all, of the Universal horror films, and I have different...

    lighting Picking my poison

For closeups, you can get a 4x4 silk in a frame that can be hand held over the actor's head, or you can attach the silk to a C-stand with a sandbag to keep it from falling over. Putting one guy in charge of the silk would be quick and easy.

    acting Acting in air

Remember that acting coaches are out to make money. If they can offer you "something new" that no other acting coach has, (BS or not), it's worth money to them, but will not necessarily get you work. If they have classes that you have confidence in, go for it. But if you have to PAY for their...

    marketing No more DVDs

Yes, I enjoy things that I can "touch"...like DVDs. We still play VHS tapes from our collection of 1000plus. We also still listen to vinyl LP records on a daily basis, and I will fire up my 16mm movie projector from time to time. (Yes, we have audio tape cassettes too). But the good part is...

pre-production Best way to handle it?: Director partner tells me he has a new movie idea and wants to work alone

Sit down with him over a couple of drinks and discuss this with him. Ask him why he did this, and tell him how you feel about it. Get it all out in the open, and then both of you decide how to move forward.

    marketing No more DVDs

Amazon just contacted us to report that as of June 1, they will no longer manufacture DVDs of our movies. It's true that the DVD market has been getting smaller and smaller, but we were still selling a few DVDs every month.

One location short-film: SUPERMARKET! Looking for recommendations

At night, a handful of workers restock shelves. One of them is found bloody and dead....then another...then another. Eventually we learn that there is a KILLER SHOPPING CART that has a mind of its own. It traps the remaining workers in the storeroom, and they must find a way to escape, or to...
