Hey people! I'm currently working on a documentary project that requires extensive filming within China (no crew and single camera plus tripod is all that's needed). I've lived in China before and am fairly familiar with the various visa requirements but am curious if others could share their experiences getting the necessary permissions to film there? Is a J Visa an absolute must in all scenarios? How easy is it to acquire this type of visa?
I'm British with no other connections to China. I'm feeling a bit torn as I'm very motivated by the project but at the same time if getting the right permission to film there is too difficult I'm not sure if it's worth pursuing. I'm also a professional journalist and know from experience that even tourist or work visas can become extremely complicated when officials are made aware of this, even if I'm not doing any journalism work there! Thanks for reading.
