Has FCP X come of age?

I've edited 3 shorts with FCPX, one of which just played at the Indie Memphis Film Fest this weekend. The digital file I exported from FCPX looked great on the big screen. It was also fun grossing out a packed theater of mostly art film enthusiasts. heh That short was originally started in...

    FCPX export issues

This is a known issue with FCPX, thanks to Google's new multi-account authentication process. You can fix it, but the solution is a pain since it requires you to basically make a new Google+ account. I didn't want to do all that, so I'm fine waiting for Apple to fix it. What I do is just render...

Very impressive light painting! Going to have to try that. I've only done it using a laser pointer.

    It's Time Again... MidKnightly 2013!

Thanks for the great feedback, Knightly! I agree completely with the issues you pointed out. I admit, I spent most of my time on the cinematography and set design, and very little on the story. And indeed, I got carried away and abused the audio effects. Really appreciate your critique. Very...

    Tilt shift question

I was just watching the bonus discs from the Star Wars Blu-ray set and they discussed creating scale when it comes to models. Their key ingredient was light. The more lights that were on the ships, the bigger they are perceived. Not the exterior lighting, but the interior lights for windows...

Best Wide Angle Lens for under 900$

I really like my Canon 10-22mm EF-S lens, even though it's only an f/3.5. Get it for around US$600 now. It's pretty sharp, though it can get a little soft around the edges at 10mm, which is certainly not surprising. You can see it intercut with Canon 70-300mm IS USM and then a Canon 50mm f/1.4...

Tiny changes to ruin horror films

Hahaha!! Leatherface isn't so bad when the worse he could do is mess up your hair a bit.

    It's Time Again... MidKnightly 2013!

Just finished this one. Just a test short to see if I could use the DSLR with separate audio recording. Shot in one 13-hour shoot. No crew, which made this a bit challenging. At one point, I was directing, running camera, holding the boom in one hand, and a light in the other...

Some excellent shots in here. Great job everyone. I do a lot of still photography. It's my relaxing hobby. Here are some recent shots: Canon 60D, Canon 100mm macro, handheld, natural light with Canon 580EX-II flash for fill. Canon 60D, Canon 70-300mm IS USM lens, handheld, natural light...

watch "M is for Maternity Ward" - ABCs of Death 2 entry (DSLR)

We finally got around to shooting more shorts, and decided on a whim to enter the ABCs of Death Part 2: 26th Director competition. I decided to try shooting with the DSLR instead of our Sony pro cam (HVR-Z5U), and now, I will likely never shoot with the Sony again. This was shot with a Canon...

    Weird interference on video test

Sounds like the bitrate is too high for either your CPU or hard drive. Try converting to another format like H.264 and manually set the bitrate to maybe 800kbps and see if the pixelation still occurs. If not, then the original bitrate is just too high for your computer to play natively. If it...
