    How to be second?

You have to get out there and make films. Find people, or just do it alone. Get a camera, get some sort of story, shoot it, edit it, and put that shit up so others can see it. And that's how you learn to do anything, isn't it? Don't be afraid to fail. Don't be afraid to suck at first. Then...

    EDITING: Best free editing software?

HitFilm looks good, so I will definitely download that and give it a try. I downloaded Wondershare Filmora and it installed and runs well, imported MOV files fine (piece of poop Windows Moviemaker didn't) and so far my only complaint is the pastel colors on the interface buttons. Now that I have...

Star Trek is losing its fanbase.

I don't know, I've been losing interest in Star Trek since the end of the original cast films, which ended rather poorly. Remember "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier?" No, you like me have probably blotted it out of your memory like a bad night out on the town with tequila. Of course "Star Trek...

    score Favorite Active Film Composers?

Nick Cave's soundtrack for "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" was really quite excellent.

I love how he said no fucking way was he going to Viet Nam. Great man all around.

    Which camera should I buy?

Indeed. If only he had looked at the progression of his scratches on each film frame and guided them into some sort of animation, then it would have actually been interesting. I sat through about a dozen of those scratch films some years ago in Austin, TX. He was in attendance. I think half the...

score How Do You Find Composers?

You can also go to this electronic music forum and listen to various soundcloud cuts. I have been on the board for a few years now, so I can probably help you decide if someone is reliable or not. Many people there release their own albums and some do soundtracks. Most do ambient electronic and...

I'm sure Stan Brakhage already did that.

    Which camera should I buy?

OK, so the camera I'm checking out is a JVC QC PX100. It takes Full HD 60fps video. Unfortunately for slo mo it is 300fps at 640 x 360 resolution. So yeah, not so impressive. 600fps at 320 x 176 resolution, which isn't remotely usable. What the hell? Can't I just cram the memory card with full...

    Which camera should I buy?

I have to agree with this one. There are minimum standards you can get in video for very little money. Don't go below basic HD. The cost of the camera pales in comparison to the cost in your and other's time and sweat. You'll regret having low quality footage after you shoot some really good scenes.

What would you like to see in a blog/educational forum

I would love to see that as well. I'm more than likely going to get a digital sound recorder to do sound along side the video. That way the sound is separated and can be processed easily in another program along with music and sound effects added.

    What's Stopping the Revolution?

It appears to have been done a few times, like in Billy Madison.

    Which camera should I buy?

I found a VHS-C video camera that my work was throwing in the trash. The battery doesn't hold a charge, but the camera seems to be fine. Ha ha ha. Not sure what to do with it. Amazingly, an intern is going to lend out a Panasonic video camera they have that shoots 600 frames per second. I'll...
