Working on an idea for a faux ad for an imaginary product

I've only had time to brainstorm this idea. The product is a fake smart-phone app, so I've been floating the idea of writing a mock-up of an app to use for producing the ad. I'm not ready to describe the app publicly, yet. I still think there is a chance I can at least work with someone to make...

Working on an idea for a faux ad for an imaginary product

I'm not too concerned about someone stealing my idea; I'd love to see where someone else might take it, but I hesitate to put it out in public right away. Suffice it to say I have an idea for a commercial that wouldn't require a lot of actors or special sets, but could be a lot of fun to produce...

    New Guy

Welcome to IndieTalk! I have just enough CG experience in Blender and Lightwave3D to know how difficult and time consuming it is. Given the size of the task you've taken on, my only advice would be to exercise the 95% rule. Try not to be too much of a perfectionist, or you may never finish...

movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Pleasantville ... what can I say, I had never seen it, but I've seen a million references to it. It did not disappoint me, although the ending was a little too neat.

    gear-related Ninja V + Z6II problem

The red outlines showing sharp areas is called "peaking", but that doesn't matter. Were you recording on the Nikon or on the Ninja? I'm guessing you were recording on the Ninja, in which case the problem lies with the HDMI output settings on your Nikon. I know how to set that on other cameras...

    Brain fade

I have one idea I could probably do pretty much alone, if I could co-opt some business people. I had an idea for a faux commercial for an instant camera (think Polaroid) where I went to a car dealership to buy an expensive car and (probably in silent movie fashion), the price was just too high...

You just prompted me to check my revenue report for last year. Revenue on video work was $3988 with expenses of $1319. Good thing I don't rely on that for groceries!

    Brain fade

I have the opposite problem. I get ideas that I know I could turn into a humorous short but I can never find anyone to collaborate with. I don't get out much to meet people and obviously Covid-19 didn't help.

Thanks. I haven't been shooting as much commercial stuff since the bottom fell out of the TV commercial business in 2008 and my marketing person has mostly retired.

    camera Shooting a computer monitor

If you can do a screen recording, that will always be better. You can soften it or rough it up a bit in post if you don't want it to look too good. Shooting screens is fraught with pain, since the screen is likely to refresh in the middle of your exposure. There are adjustments you can make to...

Should I redo my short film or settle with the final product?

If it was just for a minor flaw in the image, I'd say don't do it. Mostly because you had people who wanted to be a part of it, gave their time to it, and now will be cut out of it. However, you said there were other things you wanted to add/improve/enhance or whatever. That does change my...
