    Oregon, networking/groups/meetups

Is anyone aware of any active groups/meetups in Oregon? I’m near Portland. I’m originally from Los Angeles, where needlesss to say there was an abundance. But being new to the area and with people still rattled from events over the last couple years, networking has been tricky, particularly for...

    Hola!

Hi Shane, nice to meet you.

    New Indiana Jones movie confirmed.

Nothing personal about Chris Pratt, but I just don't quite understand why people keep bringing him up. It reminds me of when Brendan Frasier did the mummy movies and everyone was similarly saying he should be the new indie. I think Chris has potential in his own way and perhaps he could play...

watch Noire: trailer- dark, action, drama

Great work so far. I'm a huge fan of BR and continually study the cinematography. I haven't seen the other film. The main thing that concerns me with this piece is how much this feels like video, but otherwise the cinematography works to tell the story. Some shots are strong and dramatic with...

    looking for props

I'd consider negotiating a rental rate. If I had a small mom and pop shop, with a proper risk/reward assessment, I'd have a difficult time turning down what I thought was a reasonable rental offer even if it wasn't my normal business model. A contract with a significant deposit may be enough to...

How do I get this shot from Schindler's List?

I don't know which shot you're referring to, but being at a slight angle, doesn't have to be far at all, can get the camera out of the reflection. In the event that you absolutely would see the camera - shooting with the window rolled down and adding it back in post is a common solution.

    Feedback on Lighting/Cinematography Wanted

Yeah, that works and I personally think it's worth doing (for practice) to get a feel for different lens angles if you don't have access to a zoom or primes, even at the sacrifice of a bit of sharpness. That's a pretty wide open aperature so you're probably at the limits of your depth of field...

    Feedback on Lighting/Cinematography Wanted

Nice start. The look of a film is subjective of course, so please take what I say with a grain of salt. Overall I like what you've done but here are a couple things that bother me and I'd work toward finding a solution. It's apparent that you're going for something moody, but compositionally it...

Drones can be used for filming.

Can anyone explain to me when or why people started referring to ALL such craft as "drones" rather than what we've called them for years... RC's? It's just a pet peeve of mine, these sudden shifts in the popular lexicon and how such a shift potentially affects ones perception of it. The term...

    Sekonic l758cine, resetting shutter angle?

Sorry if this isn't an appropriate board for this, so feel free to delete, but I was just wondering if anyone knows how to reset the shutter angle back to 180? I'm in f/s mode, but it continually displays "ang" which the manual says that indicates that it's something other than 180. So I attempt...

    What's your Dream Remake?

Buckaroo Banzi... Ok, sorry its not older than me (but not by much). The concept really should be revisited. Totally ridiculous, but so much untapped potential the original just hinted at but wasn't able to deliver. I love the original cast and many things about it.... the quirky bits make me...

Treatments for well known successful movies

thank you very much, there are some great ones on there. Very insightful. This should be fun going through some of these. Just glanced at Star Wars, barely resembles the final product :)

Treatments for well known successful movies

I've continued looking but haven't turned up anything. There has to be some place that has a few of these. :D

    Death of the DSLR?

I'm curious, what do you mean by "isn't quite there yet?" I honestly don't know, but considering it records raw, has an extremely wide range (12 stops or so?) and the 4k version has a global shutter that apparently eliminates rolling shutter, it seems like it surpasses most DSLRs for cinema...
