Why do indie filmmakers usually stay away from true story films?

I'll play Devil's advocate and say that ANY story (true or otherwise) can be made into a low/no/mini/micro budget film. Not necessarily by any indie filmmaker, but the right filmmaker can turn any story into a worthwhile film on a micro-budget.

Vintage used lenses-- my purchases... thoughts? Advice on adapters?

One thing you'll need to keep in mind when using these old FD lenses with an adapter is the crop factor, which would be almost 2X on the T3i. In other words, all your lens will be almost twice as long, e.g. a 24mm will appear almost as a 50mm...

Question about using Premiere Pro CS5.5.

A couple of short film scripts.

I guess I should have said in my original post that these were written specifically to help some fellow performer friends pad their reels. I was asked to write them and keep them as short as possible, which is why Customer Service (which I wrote first) is 13 pages, then The Deal is 5 or so...

A couple of short film scripts.

I'm attaching a couple of scripts I've written recently for short films. I'm looking for critique, obviously. If anyone has interest in using them, feel free, just give me credit and a link to the finished product. Thanks in advance for all comments...

watch Here's my Demo Reel. What do ya'll think?

I agree that it's a bit long. Plus, the editing is kind of all over the place. Reels should showcase your work, showing a section of one scene, then the next, then the next... Yours seems to be a mash-up of several things at once. If you're looking to just show the various looks you were after...

    Practice Perfect Pitching

From what I've read, a good way to start a pitch is with a reference to an existing great film. e.g. The pitch for the movie Speed could have been: Think Die Hard on a bus... I actually have a screenplay about an undercover agent mixed up in a biker gang. I would pitch it as "One part Sons of...

Disney has bought the Indiana Jones franchise.

Oops. I just read what you were talking about, Mogul. Disney got distribution rights from Paramount. I guess this WILL make a difference... I still believe that Spielberg and Ford will have a say, but at least Lucas won't be in the way now...

    Practice Perfect Pitching

By saying that the pitch was "sold" in 15 seconds doesn't mean that the person doing the pitch has a movie deal. It means that they've sold the premise enough to warrant more time presenting it. They would then most likely present a treatment for the film idea to the investor(s) and then an...

Disney has bought the Indiana Jones franchise.

There's been a lot of discussion of this on the IMDB boards. Disney has stated that they don't have any immediate plans to do anything with the Indy franchise. They got the rights to Indy when they bought Lucasfilm last year. They wanted to get the Star Wars movies going (including the two...

    No-Budget ADR Booth.

I've used my walk-in closet for ADR and vocal recording on songs for years. It works beautifully since it's already full of echo cancelling clothes, shoes, hats, etc...

    What's your Dream Remake?

Also, Planet of the Apes. The Tim Burton remake was a travesty... It could (and should) have but so much better.

    What's your Dream Remake?

Logan's Run It came out when I was 4 (so I've already broken one of the rules ) but I think it's itching for a remake.
