Anyone else as excited as I am to see this? I really enjoyed the director's (Robert Eggers) last film "The VVitch".

Watched it.... It's good, but disturbing, maybe even more so than The Witch.
Hits close to home because I am in the Coast Guard, so I know how weird people get when out to sea for long lengths of time. (Not saying we go this bad... But I've seen things).
Willem Dafoe was extremely convincing as a salty old Sailor, right down to how nasty those types are with manners. Robert Pattinson did pretty good too. Sometimes it felt as if his accent was changing from regular American to a Canadian style at different points, but his Mustache made up for it. God, I wish I could get a mustache as good.
The only disappointing point of the film, was the ending. I felt it was too abstract, but it may just be because I don't know enough about that time period and those tales.
The Director, Robert Eggers seems to get as close and detailed to those periods as much as he can, and there are many hidden details, just like his previous work.
It took my brain a moment to adjust to the narrow aspect ratio, but the black and white cinematography is right up my wheelhouse. I will definitely be watching this film again, to try and absorb more of the ending and figure out what I think happened.
I'd be interested in hearing from others who have seen it. Let me know how the ending made you feel?

Great chat vid (long) with Robert Eggers about how he dived into the research for the film. I love this man's detail oriented approach, it creates a world to visit when you watch his films.

Did you like the directors previous work, The Witch?
I would say The Witch was actually a little slower paced. This seemed more action oriented in my opinion. The pacing was quicker, but I do agree the ending for me was disappointing and too abstract.

I didn't like that either. I think the director/writer of both movies could do the job of an art director and then work with a screenwriter on how to make a story jump off the page with just text before it goes to screen. Both movies have taught me to never make a project that relies on a specific historical time to carry a story.
