using music samples in youtube videos

sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but you guys might know

if i have a 10 minute video and i use little song samples here and there is it going to be an issue? 3-20 seconds max i guess

let's say i reversed the audio, sped it up, or stretched it out.. or distorted it or whatever, will it still get flagged?

basically, i'm doing a simple little project here, and an alice in chains snippet would be perfect...

Stealing intellectual property is stealing intellectual property. There’s no way around that except for going through the proper licensing.

Of course, I’m not a lawyer. I’m just a content creator who advocates for respectiing the content/intellectual property of other creators.

You should consult a copyright attorney on the application of “fair use” (which is often grossly misinterpreted).

well let's settle down, like i said this is just a simple little thing. i'm not going to put 'call a lawyer about the video' on my to-do list. just wondering what a casual briefing on the subject might be, that's all.

Casual briefing - Any copyrighted materials need legal clearance from the copyright holder(s) for use in other projects. Use of copyrighted materials without permission of the copyright holder(s) is considered theft. There are no exceptions for length or distorting the source materials, etc.

If the YouTube 'bots pick up that you are using copyrighted material(s) your video could be taken down, demonetized, restricted or any revenues given to the copyright holder(s).

That's it, end of briefing.
