watch Horror / SciFi Short - SIX

The following is something I scored for a horror short contest last year. Rob Zombie was one of the crappy judges. Not winning something judged by him felt better than winning... Guess there wasnt enough trailer trash involved.

Nevertheless, the goal was to create something creepy with a 3 minute time limit. We came up with SIX.
The reference is of alien encounters - and the sixth, is the one you'd fear the most....

Film by George Taramas and Michael Gruosso
Score by John Marrone's Zombies Unlimited

Comments would be welcome and appreciated...

You've misread me. Didn't care that we didnt win, at all. I was knocking Rob Zombie as a filmmaker and furthermore as a film judge. Anyone who is familiar with his films knows he is obsessed with trailer trash. Just a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor there. Zero percent bitter. Not being held in his high esteem, I consider a plus. He is a polarizing filmmaker - people either love his work, or hate it - and being a professional horror film critic (I hate that word "critic", but its my area of expertise and what they call my work) - I am on the side of those who felt he destroyed the "Halloween" franchise. He cant seem to get out of that "white trash" frame of mind...

Liked it. Interesting. Well acted Good sound and effects Would like to see a longer version someday. I'd have liked the alien to be less Streiber/ Roswell looking. Aside from that- nice work!

So I'm guessing you missed the recent post where a lot of us were talking about how awesome Rob Zombie was as a filmmaker?

Firstly, your comments about Zombie do come off as a little bitter. Your opinion is your own and you're entitled to it, but the way you've written it, especially in the context of your post, makes it sound as though you blame him for your not winning. I assume you entered the competition with hopes of winning? If you had have won, would that have meant you movie sucked, being as Zombie was on the panel?

As for your movie... I enjoyed it. I like the look of the alien (I'm a huge X-Files fan, so I love seeing 'Grey Alien' types). You score towards the end was good, it fit well with the imagery. I'd have liked a bit more of a story, I found myself asking 'why?'. It feels like a scene, rather than a movie (which I suppose it is!).

The biggest problem with the whole thing comes at around 1:45... Are they jump cuts? Is there a problem with the render? Is it YouTube? I'm assuming they're jump cuts and they are intentional. If that is the case, it doesn't work. They're too close together, too little difference between the shots. It just feels wrong to me.

Anyhow, I though it was a good effort, even if I am a huge Rob Zombie fan! Well done! :D

I also liked the short.. Music does remind me of Sir John Carpenter's..
and yea Zombie is one hella creative individual and even his films (whether you like it or not) does seem to be seeped in it. I hated Halloween 2 myself but still am a huge fan of his work esp. Devil's Reject.

Good job

Argubly though Given the limited time, It might have been Smarter to go with a look that the audience would automatically associate with an alien as opposed to say a demon or mutant or something. I'm not hep enough to have an opinion about Rob Zombie
